Javier Bardem for Bond 23 villain

And Rachael Weisz is apprently now quite close to Daniel Craig and friends with Mendes to boot!

I love the title Quantum of Solace, I just didn't like Quantum as the name of the organisation.

I liked "Quantum", too.

I think the reason they gave the orginization that name was to tie into the film's title. Remember...the original story was Bond hearing a tragic love story from a friend of his--a governor, I believe. The "quantum of solace" referred to the "amount of comfort" the couple in the tale had given to each other. Obviously, that was NOT movie material.

Or it could be Bond just putting a dent in their operation.

I don't think they needed to wedge quantum in like that. A line with M asking 007 if finding Vesper's boyfriend gabe him solace. "A bit, a tiny quantum...of soalce!" Actually as I write that it sounds trite so forget I said it

Seems he's keen all right:

“I’m a huge fan of the James Bond saga,” Bardem says. “When I was little, I went watching Mr. Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I’d be in one of those movies?”
The deal breaker for him, if there is one, will be, as always, if the material doesn't hold up. But Bardem says he was intrigued by what Mendes told him at their meeting.
“They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic,” Bardem says. “I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It’s very intriguing.”
And the escapism of the Bond franchise would seem a solid fit for an actor newly determined to leave his work behind when he goes home at night.
“But who knows? Maybe I will go back home saying, ‘I have the world in my hands,’” Bardem laughs. “Evil can be very seductive.”

Yeah seems like he was sold on the pitch. I saw an article from cinemablend yesterday saying he hadn't read the script yet. I guess he's doing that now.

Hmm...did he just give away a plot turn in the story?

"We have people everywhere"

It would be interesting if Bond's contact turned out to be the head of Quantum

Fiennes was supposedly offered the role of 007 when Dalton exited but he saw the character as a cold-blooded assassin. Eon wanted a more cuddly Bond, after the lukewarm reception to Licence to Kill, so that was that.

I can definitely see him as a Bond villain but I believe this story originated in The Daily Mail, which makes it suspect. It's hard to believe that a Bond movie would have space for two such heavyweight thesps as him & Bardem.

Yep the Daily Mail is notorious for making things up and reporting false stories. They're even worse than Comic Book Movies.
