Javier Bardem for Bond 23 villain

So, his name will be what? Brown? Black? Are the any other colors that are also last names that anyone can think of?

This is very good news, Craig's Bond might finally have a villain worthy of him rather than the overblown henchmen that Le Chiffre and Green were.

Wanna bet he's the shadowy head of Quantum itself?

Perhaps, like Mr. White, he stayed seated when Bond was taking pictures at the opera....

Perhaps we could see a reference to From Russia With Love and You Only Live Twice--Bardem is seated, discussing the plot with the standing Mr. White.

He's even got the right initials to appear in a Bond movie.

I hope he accepts it, Daniel Craig hasn't really had a baddie who can give him a run for his money in the presence and charisma stakes. Le Chiffre was okay but the last guy was pisspoor. Really, there hasn't been a suitable match of Bond and villain since Brosnan and Bean in Goldeneye. But if Craig and Chigur get it together (ahem), that would knock even Goldeneye's pairing into a cocked bowler hat.

Oh I dunno, I liked Toby Stephens myself, he was one of the big plus points of DAD for me.

The trouble with Le Chiffre is that he wasn't really the villain, he was the villain's accountant. And I think its a real shame given how much of a physical presense Mads has (see clash of the Titans the guy's like a giant) that he was relegated to a weasely, asthmatic man in no control of his own destiny who can't even protect himself from a couple of African guerillas.

Green was more of a conventional villain, but really he was just the villain's project manager.

Personally I think Amalric would have made a better Le Chiffre and Mikkelson a better Dominic Green.

In many ways Mr White had more personality than either of them though!

I think I'd read somewhere that they didn't like the feedback they'd got about Quantum and that the next film will not feature them in any way or form.

Yeah, Craig's been saying for a couple of years that he expects it to be completely standalone.

It didn't help that they gave them such a dumb name! I think as well that the idea of a shadowy global organisation that no one's heard of seems ridiculous in this day and age. I think its easier for one madman with a focused scheme to stay under the radar than a SPECTRE like force, especially given the Craig films have been somewhat more realistic than many Bond films...

It'd be a nice touch is the pre title sequence of Bond 23 saw 007 mopping up Quantum however!

To each their own, I love the name Quantum. But then I'm one of five people who loves the title "Quantum of Solace" so there you have it. *shrug*

I liked Quantum as well. I believe they couldn't use SPECTRE due to rights problems or something of that nature. I hope Javier accepts or gets the role. He'd be spectacular. As Captain Craig suggested maybe this means we could get Penelope Cruz as a Bond Girl ;) Also another interesting Bond Girl possibility would be Rebeca Hall since she and Sam Mendes are good friends.
