Bones Spinoff to Star Geoff Stults

Honestly you seem to dislike a lot of shows even stuff you watch :p

Season 1 & 2 were ok finales...3 and 4 were , 5 wasn't bad I did like the airport ending.

I care more about the 21 episodes before the finale than the finale itself.

The show peaked it first seasons and has been going down hill slowly ever since, the last two years it has fallen off a cliff.

The only shows I really like on TV now are Fringe, The Middle, Raising Hope, and Community. I watch Bones, House and Glee just as a waste of time.

To be honest I don't understand why Bones needs a spinoff? Bones has done well to last so long because the demo is pretty low compared to the total viewers (excluding the recent post Idol slot). FOX is probably the network for the 18-49 demo with its shows and Bones seem so CBS-ish.

I am so surprised especially after canning the House spinoff early into its life that they want a Bones spinoff.

Honestly I am too. The House spin-off actually sounded like a good idea to me, and I liked the character, plus he was on more than one episode.

Maybe Fox realized there mistake, or maybe Fox just really wants another cop show because they are in now. Private eye shows... ""... cop shows ":bolian:".

Same, before the Cuddy relationship story with the P.I the reception seemed good and I personally loved the idea they had.

Yes and if it was greenlite we wouldn't have to put up with him and Chuddy's relationship, which is even more unbelievable than her and House.

As has always been the case with spinoffs, it doesn't matter how great the main show is if the writing sucks on the new show. And visa versa.

Maude went for 6 seasons and The Jeffersons for 11, and they spun off from a great show which only went 9 itself. Even Archie Bunker's Place went for 4 seasons.

I'm sure there's a few examples of the opposite, though I can't think of them right now.

Spinoffs these days usually don't actually spin off any original characters from Show A to Show B. It's easier to introduce new characters for an episode and then send send them on their way (like David Caruso appearing on CSI, Mark Harmon appearing on JAG, etc.) rather than having an actor rolling the dice by leaving a hit show that he or she may not be brought back to if the spinoff fails.

I know Norman Fell didn't want to leave Three's Company for his own show because of how well Three's Company was doing. But he had been replaced with the more popular Don Knotts, and ABC conveniently kept the spinoff on the air until just after the contractual obligation to bring them back to Three's Company expired, so that was the end of that.

I think Private Practice is the only spinoff currently on the air where they actually moved an existing character over from the original show.

It probably varies. Maude was on 1 or 2 episodes of AITF and of course the Jeffersons were on quite a few.

Mork was a good example of a character who was on a show once before being given his own show, though I'm not sure it was planned for him to have a spinoff.

Let's hope it's better than season 5 of Bones. (I haven't seen the current sixth season yet.)

Maybe it's because I caught up on the entire series on Netflix in the past year or so (e.g., much more rapidly than someone watching it live), but Brennan's deteriorated from socially inept yet likable to a complete idiot with Asperger's syndrome in the course of a single season. I don't know if they changed writers or what may have happened, but it came about very abruptly.

I recently tore through the first five seasons courtesy of Netflix streaming. I found the writing to be horribly flawed and very inconsistent. The characters are likable and they have good chemistry with one another, but their actions and motivations often don't make sense, and the writers continually tease the audience with Booth/Bones without ever actually doing anything. If I were a long-time fan who had invested years in the series, I would be seriously pissed at all of the ridiculous plot twists, dream episodes, and forced obstacles that the writers come up with in order to keep the 'shippers squawking. It's light entertainment with decent characters... that's about it.

Why does this show deserve a spin-off? No clue.

I'll admit Bones is no masterpiece, but the characters kept you watching through over 100 horribly written episodes?

I watch for the characters. I gave up on my plot expectations long ago. They are all over the board with the writing, so I quit hoping. Once in a while a good episode gets written, giving me a pleasant surprise...

As for a "sequel" - eh, whatever....

Most spin-offs make sense...

JAG to NCIS, law to investigation; NCIS to NCIS: LA, different cities.

Same with CSI, different cities.

Same with L&O, different aspects of the NYPD, and different cities.

It remains to be seen how Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior works.

House's spin-off was dumb and had nothing to do with House.

Bones' spin-off is also dumb and has nothing to do with Bones. If we spun off to another anthropologist (a guy this time) at another location investigating different types of crimes, that would make sense, especially if he'd been in a few episodes and a love interest or a rival to Bones.

There are actually several well-written episodes. The corpse of the week plots are usually decent enough, and occasionally pretty good. And the characters are usually well-written. But the series does a horrible job when they attempt any sort of arc. The Gormogon mystery was actually pretty cool... until they actually revealed the Gormogon. Tying Zach to the killer came entirely out of left field, made no sense, was poorly planned (or, more likely, not planned at all by the writers) and just didn't work for me. Meanwhile, when they finally reveal the identity of the killer, we see him for like 30 seconds and then he's killed. End of story. They don't even let the audience or the main characters interact with him for a bit. He's there and then he's dead. Lame. I also thought that Booth's brain tumor started off cool enough, but ultimately didn't really go anywhere interesting. So what I've learned from watching the show is that they can set up a storyline but can't pay it off.

To be somewhat fair the Zach mess was partly done by stupidity to rush the story during the writers strike. But they still shouldn't have rushed it.
