In other news, Jim Joyce has been banned from setting foot in the state of Arizona. :shifty:

I'm sorry, but that's not cool. I guess I like Jim Joyce a lot (And gained so much respect for him last year because of the whole incident) and there was a great piece on ESPN.com maybe a month ago about how he is dealing with the whole thing and the death threads and nice letters he's received. It's a good read, and what you said brought out a strong reaction in me.

Good point. With all the truly bad & inconsistent umpires in the game, Joyce is probably in the top 10% of good ones.

Some umps are confrontational too. I mean, Billy Martin & Lou Pinella kicking dirt & throwing bases was more for entertainment & firing a team up than bad behavior. But the umps shouldn't be getting into personal shit.

Even before the incident, I loved Jim Joyce because of his Strike 3 call. I mean you could hear it outside the stadium and everyone knew what the call was. It was just good entertainment value. What happened last year gained me a whole lot more respect for him because unlike a lot of umpires and officials, he owned up, was accountable, felt really really bad about it, and showed that he's a Human being and as fallible as any of us. It was just really refreshing that an official would react that way. If more officials did that, well, I'd say they're doing their jobs a whole lot better than they currently are.

A U2 concert trumps the Marlins in their own stadium, so they're gonna be playing a home series... in Seattle.

Well if he signs there it's for the money because he couldn't say he's going there to play for a contender.

^ And besides, Joe Robbie Pro Player Dolphins Land Shark Sun Life Dolphin Stadium hardly qualifies as "their own" stadium anyway...

As long as people fill up this new stadium and home run ball ransom guy doesn't get his hand on any players' first home run, I'm all for that. :)

^ They'll probably draw a big crowd the first year because of the novelty, then thin out. People didn't even see them when they were good.

According to ESPN, Mets looking to sell 20-25% of team to offset Madoff losses...nice.

Rumor of a three-team deal involving three have-nots -- A's, Mariners, Blue Jays -- with Chrone Figgins going to the A's and some scrubs switching teams.

^ I'm aware of the Post's reputation, but I still found it pretty funny. The list is pretty well-researched, though, and it reads like he put a fair amount of thought into the listings.

Plus, if the post is anything like the Sun (Canada's trashy tabloid, with reactionary, over-the-top covers) then their sports coverage is probably at least decent. It's the one thing those kind of papers tend to do well.

Oh I'll be honest, I read the Post sports section all the time. And their headlines are usually pretty clever.

It's a scandalous, sensationalist sort of newspaper - but a guilty pleasure nonetheless.
