um we waited so long for new Doctor Who, that hes only gone and appeared on ITV.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI4-iyF3cnQ

not an excellent quality video im afarid, and many British gags.

im going to have to go and take a shower now, Doctor Who on ITV its wrong, and I feel dirty for having watched it.

Apparntly Waterloo Road is ther better drama, of Doctor Who, Sherlock & Shameless.

My guess is Doctor Who and Sherlock suffered from a split vote, with that well-known quality drama Waterloo Road coming though the middle.

Waterloo Road, once upon a time, was quite good. These days I'm amazed anyone sees it, aside from the last few minutes as they tune in for The Apprentice.

EDIT: "There's some terrible and ancient creature out there..." Dot from Eastenders :D

Anyone who doesn't laugh at that at least once has no soul.

Dot also works on two levels, I would think she was in Dimensions in Time & she was also in The Time Warrior.

its funny if they had done the EE bit and the Corrie bit as "actors" the sketch could be considered to be "canon"

First time it hasn't won since 2005 when it was brought back. Not surprising to me at least...

Don't read anything into that. No one passed a law saying it has to win every year, you know.

The skit was cool - I still say it would be unthinkable for, say, NBC to to promote Glee in this way. Or CBS promote Jay Leno or something. So frankly the fact ITV led off with Doctor Who on one of its showcase series means a lot more than some popularity contest.

Useless trivia time: David Hasselhoff can be glimpsed during the Britain's Got Talent segment of the sketch. Back in the wilderness years of 1989-95 when there were all sorts of wild and wooly rumours hitting the media about planned Doctor Who movies, there were two actors whose names were constantly being reported as candidates for playing the Doctor. One was David Bowie. The other was, you guessed it - the Hoff. I still have nightmares over how THAT might have turned out...

But I think series 5 recieved its lowest ratings since nuWho began. So I will read into it a bit....

I think the viewing figures have been skewed somewhat with the increasing use of iplayer and things like that.

Somone like Jax probably has some accurate figures to hand. I thought the Christmas special numbers were comparable with past specials.

Even if there is a drop off, the show is still incredibly popular, but there were always gonna be people who woulnd't be able to get past the fact that Tennant isn't the Doctor any more.

^^That and putting it on when the sun is splitting the trees, even my Who mad niece was out playing on a Saturday evening rather than stuck in the house for Dr who, which is what you want the kids to be doing.......plus its repeated again on BBC3 through the week so they can always catch up on a school night.

All that and Iplayer no doubt will hit those viewing figures to a certain extent.

But I think series 5 recieved its lowest ratings since nuWho began. So I will read into it a bit....

Actually taking only they thirteen episodes that make up the main run of the series the average ratings were:

Series 1: 7.95m
Series 2: 7.71m
Series 3: 7.55m
Series 4: 8.05m
Series 5: 7.80m

Which would put Series Five right slap bang in the middle with Series One and Four out performing it.

If we add the Christmas Specials (with The Christmas Invasion being counted with Series Two) and the Specials (The Next Doctor to The End of Time, Part Two) we get:

Series 1: 7.95m
Series 2: 7.87m
Series 3: 7.67m
Series 4: 8.42m
Specials: 11.45m
Series 5: 8.02m

Which places Series Five as the third most popular (or second most popular if you want to count Series Four and the Specials as a single series which would average out at 9.94m)

Okay, you might not agree with my placement of the Christmas Specials, so let's try it with The Christmas Invasion as part of Series One, The Runaway Bride as part of Series Two... The Next Doctor as part of Series Four and The Specials consisting of Planet of the Dead to The End of Time, Part Two...

Series 1: 8.08m
Series 2: 7.83m
Series 3: 7.96m
Series 4: 8.41m
Specials: 11.04m
Series 5: 8.02m

Which still leaves Series Five as being more popular than the first two series of Tennant's tenure as The Doctor. So no, Series Five didn't receive the lowest ratings since NuWho returned.

Even if we go by individual episodes the lowest rating episode of Series Five was The Lodger with 6.44m viewers which is higher than The Satan Pit with 6.08m, Silence in the Library with 6.27m and The Impossible Planet's 6.32m. So even the lowest rating episode of Series five was still more popular than the lowest rating episode of Series Four.

Of the sixteen episodes of NuWho that were watched by less than 7m viewers: three are in Series One, four are in Series Two, three are in Series Three, two are in series Four and four are in Series Five.

So really all you can say is that Smith's first series rated slightly higher than Tennant's first series and had as many individual episodes that rated under 7m which really puts him about even with Tennant's introduction and as I remember it he turned out to be quite popular eventually.

If there's any other misconceptions you'd like debunked please don't hesitate to ask. :)

That line made me lol. but I think only UK viewers will get the jokes.

Season 1 was the lowest

The last christmas special was on par virtually for TEOT special and overall the show has not loss many viewers, they simply have emigrated. 2010 had Doctor Who moved around more than ever before far as I can remember regarding time slot changes + Summer Weather + World Cup 2010...

However it broke records on BBC I Player that still remain and saw increases in the figures of repeat audiences.

Live audience ratings during the first 12 months of Smiths reign...

The share always remained high even when figures were low but I player figures ranged from a low of 1.15 million to 2.18 million. Infact when totalling the first week repeats (Sun & Friday) + I player and Live viewers the lowest and highest score in 2010 were...

8.71 million (The Hungary Earth)
13.57 million (The Eleventh Hour)

dont quote me on this but i think the NTA is indepdent of ITV for just that reason, at the start you saw the 5 channels logos flying across the screen.

Still I agree its a brave choice for the NTA to feature a BBC show like not, of course Doctor Who is ideal for that type of thing.

On a side note, I remember reading that they were going to redo the console room to make it easies to shoot in... Did it look like it was considerably smaller to anybody else? Or was it just me?

On the subject of the viewing figures, the BBC are going to be introducing a new method of measuring viewers soon called "Live Plus 7" which, for the first time, will include iPlayer figures of those who watch a programme on iPlayer within 7 days of broadcast, in addition to those who watch the programme live and DVR it within 7 days. Should even out some of the decline that has been seen through increased usage of iPlayer.

That sketch was hilarious. I cannot believe Doctor Who didn't win anything. Matt Smith certainly deserved to win best actor, he is SO much better than Tennant (and yes that is my opinion).

Doctor Who clearly got screwed.
