Movies you love but others hate.

The Day the Earth Stood Still. I can't fathom it yet, but the 2008 version is superior in every single way imaginable to the original yet it gets no love.

I like the 2008 version just fine. But, I definately side with anybody who prefers the original.

I do have a soft spot for ST:TMP and TFF despite pacing issues for number 1 and some crippling plot holes in the script for Five. However number 1 just feels so STAR TREK and TFF is full of charming character moments and some of the most powerful stuff when Spock and especially McCoy face their fears.

I also don't hate The Matrix sequels, Indy 4 and the SW prequels though I wouldn't quite say I love em, well maybe Episode III ;).

I've lost track of whether these have been mentioned...

HANCOCK -- I know people complained about the change in tone, but I loved the surprise.

THE SPIRIT -- Maybe I just have a really weird sense of humor or something, but I thought it was funny and struck the right note for the comic book it was representing. (And I keep thinking that Gabriel Macht would have been the perfect Britt Reid in place of Seth Rogen. Ah, well...)

THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN -- *shugs helplessly* Hey, I thought it was a lot of fun. And I like that they used practical effects as much as possible. I watch it pretty much every time I find it playing (usually on FX a lot, I think).

Oh, and Peta Wilson should be in more stuff. Ditto Naseeruddin Shah. And yum, Tony Curran.

Agreed on ST1 & 5. Indy 4 was alright, not as good as the originals, but a decent time. Matrix 2 was okay, Matrix 3 had epic battles, but the Neo=Jesus thing was pretentious and stupid. Star Wars Prequels...ugh. We diverge on that one.

Not sure if I have a movie to contribute myself...I usually rag on whatever boring movie gets an oscar. I think the only watchable Best Picture winner in the last decade was "Gladiator." I liked the Max Payne movie with Marky Mark, That 70's chick, and Ludacris. Lord of War with Nick Cage was a really good movie. Crank with Jason Stathem was hilarious the first time through, mostly because I was expecting a vastly more serious film. The sequel was godawful though. Wild Wild West with Will Smith was good buddy flick with a different atmosphere, and a pretty good take on the series.

.
this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. i know its nowhere near as good as the comic, but i still enjoy it.

I actually really like those Au Pair movies shown on the family channel, I'm not sure why, I just think they're cute.
