Movies you love but others hate.

Where do I being?

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is one of the best times I've had in a movie theater (watching a movie anyway).

The Core. Actually I don't think a lot of people hate this one, but many are indifferent.

Buckaroo Banzai. Even amongst sci-fi fans its a bit of a backwater in fandom.

Star Trek: Nemesis.

"Now if you'll excuse me... I'll be in the gym!"
I enjoyed that one too. I never understood the hate that movie got.

Godfather part three
The phantam menace

These movies are always panned by their fanbase but I enjoyed them

Lynch's "Dune". I can't even explain why, but I'll watch it whenever it is on. Also STTMP. For me the best of the TOS movies, and holds up better than any of them.

...
I'd really like to see Stewart & McKellen doing Merchant of Vegas. I saw them (on TV) in a stage production of Waiting for Godot together.

I saw them on stage in Brighton IRL performing "Waiting for Godot" :p
Quite good ~ *understated*

I can't remember if I said this yet, but: I really like the Matrix sequels. They're not as good as the first one, the bits with the french vampire are terrible, but otherwise they're great fun. What wasn't fun or expected was the cliffhanger ending of Reloaded. There was much swearing and stomping:lol:.

Ghostbusters II. Although I think it's more "less liked" than "hated" in general. That Vico was one badass mofo painting:techman:.

Revolutions was very enjoyable. :bolian:

While we're on that subject, could somebody PLEASE explain to me what was so damn funny about 'why is there a watermelon there?' :brickwall:
I'll tell you later.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

It's a total non sequitur. Movie is full of those.

There is a complex answer to the simple question here: http://www.banzai-institute.com/0901FAQ.html BUT I suggest you not read it! You have been warned!

I also really like "Gremlins: The New Batch" and its off beat brand of humor.

Agreed! Great movie. :techman:

You can't go wrong when you have Christopher Lee saying stuff like "We can't let them get away. All they have to do is to eat three or four children and it will be the most appalling publicity!"

My two are:

13th Warrior - This movie is way better then people think. I'm not a Antonio Banderas fan but I think he really works in this movie. I know there was a lot of trouble on the set and Michael Crichton had to step in and do reshoots. However this is my favorite Michael Crichton book and I love the movie.

The Abyss - I know there are fans of the movie out there, but it is often dismissed as Cameron's "bad" movie. I couldn't disagree more, I think this is actually his best movie. From story, to pacing, and performances everything works on multiple levels.

I loved both of those movies. I'd like to add "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" I was very disappointed the adventure never continued.

Me too. Abyss is indeed his best movie (the Director's Cut). 13th Warrior is fantastic. Though one day I'd like to see the original John McTiernan cut.
