<3 Ricky Gervais

I don't doubt that some may be gloating, but my experience is that conservatives generally favor decorum, manners, and aren't so hot on attack comedy.

Then they're not so hot on comedy at all, really.

That, and the conservative comedians I've seen thrive on attack comedy. Dennis Miller, for one. Adam Sandler for another. That's about the only conservative comedians I know, actually.

You use the term "comedian" very loosely. And "conservative comedians" is redundant.

Adam Sandler is a conservative?!

He sure is. Yeah, I know. Surprised the hell out of me too when I found out.

Well, I like Dennis Miller, and think he's funny. Adam Sandler, of course, is close to my heart just for "Billy Madison" and "Happy Gilmore", both being movies that I love very much.

You must have never heard the stuff liberal comedians say, then, if you think what Dennis Miller does is "attack" comedy.

Have you never heard Garofalo? She spews more hate than any half a dozen other people on either side of the aisle.

Had Gervais "been as relentless in ripping apart Sarah Palin, her young children, Jesus Christ or George W. Bush, today the comedian would be celebrated as 'edgy' and 'courageous'," noted John Nolte, editor of the Andrew Breitbart website Big Hollywood.

I think including the Son of Man in that list is more offensive that anything Gervais may have said. What, did Christ choke and stammer that "Oh, I'm all kinds of things. Just, all kinds," when Pilate asked if He was the King of the Jews? Did He become King of Kings after a bunch of old Samaritans voted for Solomon instead of Elijah on the butterfly ballot? Did He ride into Jerusalem on a donkey and drive out the moneychangers because Judas told Him that there were weapons of mass destruction hidden in the Temple?

Or, alternatively, does he view Sarah Palin and George W. Bush as being as deserving of protection from blasphemy as Christ Jesus?

I thought De Niro's joke about "full-body scans on Megan Fox" was more questionable than anything Gervais said.

That's what Dennis Miller is known for. He's a satirist, and satire is based on ridicule and mockery of a particular subject.
Also, what does a liberal comedian have to do with whether conservative comedians engage in attack comedy? I'm not talking about liberal comedians, I'm talking about conservative comedians.

I don't care what Garofalo spews, I don't listen to her.

Neither does anyone else, which goes back to that matter of scale that's been discussed elsewhere recently.

Yep. I just thought it was interesting that we were talking about conservative comedians who do attacks in comedy, and suddenly it switched to "but look what these liberal comedians do".

Adam Sandler is a conservative?!

Based on his filmography one would suspect a mild brain injury.

Little Nicky was evidence of severe brain damage.

There were some funny moments in that movie. I still get a kick out of the whole "cover Winkler with bees!... You can do it!" bit.
Oh, and my favorite line, "Jesus this, Moses that, Abraham hit me with a whiffle ball bat."

A lot of the stories in the press have an implication that Gervais somehow besmirched the dignity of the Golden Globes and the HFPA. That's bullshit. You can't besmirch something that's inherently without dignity.

"Ooooooh! He implied that The Tourist sucked and didn't deserve recognition!" Well, it did suck. And Robert Downey Jr. used to be a trainwreck and Tim Allen is a fucking joke. So what? It'd be even more awkward if he stood up there and pretended the proceedings were as important and dignified as the HFPA would have us believe.

Those pompous jackasses gave a smart guy 3 hours of live air and he rightfully used it to rip on them. I'd be disappointed if he had done any less.
