<3 Ricky Gervais

You know, I very nearly said "Hello" when Lucius Malfoy appeared on screen when I saw HP7a.
They commented last year that one of his films, possibly Green Zone, bearing the credit "and Jason Isaacs" was arguably the closest that cinema itself has said "Hello to Jason Isaacs."

I only started listening late last year, after remembering a recommendation from one of my doctor a couple of years back, wasn't you by any chance was it? But I wish they had more podcasts available, I think I only have from September.

Hello to Jason Isaacs
I had to google that, as I had confusions. I'm so out of the loop....

You have to listen to the Mark Kermode And Simon Mayo Film Review, it's absolutely brilliant.

I think it was me who recommended them to you, on this very BBS. ;) Now I see that you've heeded this good doctor's advice. :bolian:

I've been a listener of their show since 2007 - the first review I heard was his rant over the first "Transformers" film. Yes, the podcasts since about September 2010 are still available. (The BBC has introduced an "indefinite" policy on its more important podcasts now, which is a good thing - though I still wish Fighting Talk could be available for longer.)

So you don't know you're supposed to say Hello to Jason Isaacs, David Morrisey and Michael Sheen then?

... and Stephen Fry, David Tennant, Fairport Convention, Dom Joly, etc. etc.

And you don't know about Eat, Pray, Love, Vomit. Or Parasnoremal Activity 2?

If you were there earlier this year, you would also know about Benjamin Sniddlegrass and the Cauldron of Penguins. :bolian:

By the way, does Ricky Gervais still have a podcast somewhere?

You may have on here, but it was a cardiologist at the LGI who recommended it IRL I was referring to.
From a comment on the show it appears there are ways and means of getting hold of the entire back catalogue but not officially.

As for Ricky Gervais, I believe the original ones are still about but the current one is a paid for podcast.

Great stuff, love Gervais.

Although if Americans think that's bad, I'd love to see Frankie Boyle present it next year

A lot of people are saying that. Frankie Boyle would be very good. Jerry Sadowitz would be good too.

Yeah, that wouldn't be me at LGI. Still, it's good to know that wittertainment knows no boundaries. :bolian:

(At this rate, I'm going to start a new thread on this, actually - it's starting to choke up discussion in this thread.)

From Ricky Gervais' blog.

Week one hundred and fifty-four - January 2011

Thanks to the twitterverse, the blogosphere, all the journos and the coolest stars for coming to my rescue.

It was heartwarming to realise I wasn't losing my mind. Some reactions nearly had me believing I'd gone too far too. Nearly.

Can't wait for the people who thought it was over the top to see my stand-up shows. **** me, they will **** themselves.

Oh, and fans, take this opportunity to tell the world about Karl Pilkington. Tweet about that ****ing head now!

All new Ricky Gervais Show this Friday on HBO and An Idiot Abroad on Science Channel 22nd Jan.

A genuine thanks by the way for all your support.

Cheers.

Back in New York. From 80 degrees to 20 in a few hours. Still it was nice to get a bit of winter sun.

I enjoyed the Globes more this year. I think I had better gags. More along the lines of the Mel Gibson one last year.

Obviously the rumour that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn't move around the order but I could move around however I wanted.

All the same conspiracy theories as last year too... "So and so was offended"... "hasn't been invited back yet"... exactly the same as last time. "Paul McCartney was furious"... no he wasn't. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.

Why do people have to embellish? They're allowed to say they hated it. They're allowed to say they didn't find it funny, that it was tasteless, over the top, or whatever. But why do they speculate and make stuff up?

Don't worry, I know the answer. Because it's more interesting than "it went fine and some people won some awards and then went to a party". But that's all that happened.

Actually, I see what they mean. Boring. So here's what really happened. Bruce Willis and Sly Stallone started a fight with me but Alec Baldwin and Mark Walberg stepped in and helped me out. That's what happened.

Love it! You can't make this shit up. :rommie:

Ricky Gervais: the new darling of the Faux News set.

British comedian Ricky Gervais is the new darling of political conservatives thanks to the fusillade of insults he directed at the aghast celebrities attending the weekend's Golden Globe Awards.

Delighted at the sight of Gervais belittling Hollywood elitists who they maintain do likewise to them regularly, the right-wing blogosphere lit up with positive reviews, even while more traditional media was critical of Sunday's telecast.

Had Gervais "been as relentless in ripping apart Sarah Palin, her young children, Jesus Christ or George W. Bush, today the comedian would be celebrated as 'edgy' and 'courageous'," noted John Nolte, editor of the Andrew Breitbart website Big Hollywood.

Instead, the Washington Post said Gervais "crashed" and the New York Times said he was "merciless" and in "bad form." Philip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the event's organizer, said some of the things Gervais said "were totally unacceptable."

Nolte, though, likened Gervais' jabs at various actors and the HFPA as a much-needed "sucker punch" leveled against elite bullies who do likewise to middle America on a routine basis.
Sadly, they're right: Hollywood's liberal elite really is badly out of touch, and a pack of buffoons, and egotisical, hypocritical, moronic, etc etc. But I don't much care to be on the same side of anything as an asshat like Andre Breitbart.

Also, since everyone already hates Hollywood, attacking them seems like a cheap shot and also kinda boring and obvious. Just leave Tom Cruise ALLLOOOONNEEE! :rommie:

The thing is, the vast, vast majority of stars who were at the Golden Globes loved him, and it's true that if anyone has seen his act, this was tame by comparison! I did laugh at the fact that Howard Stern said Gervais went to far, that stars take themselves so seriously. Well, fuck you, Howard, looks like you've become a little more self important than you should be, you ever increasing gasbag, and I say this as a fan!

I checked out some of his Golden Globes stuff on Youtube, pretty funny. My favorite was his introduction to Mel Gibson, "I like to drink as much as the next man, unless that man is .... Mel Gibson".

What, is he still on?

He's on satellite radio now. I used to be a really big fan because Howard wasn't afraid of saying whatever he wanted. Now, it seems, he is, or at the very least, he is when it isn't him.

Sorry, but the use of "Faux News" right there makes me roll my eyes and instantly discount anything the thing says.

I'm conservative. Possibly to the right of Rush, I don't know. And *I* abhor what Gervais did. As do most of my conservative friends with whom I've spoken about this. I don't doubt that some may be gloating, but my experience is that conservatives generally favor decorum, manners, and aren't so hot on attack comedy.

Go on, you know you want to... if you don't I might

Oh and I wasn't actually serious about it being you at LGI, might have thought it was if it was Royal Hallamshire.

As for Ricky Gervais this is making me want to get his stand up dvds now.

Already working on it. :)

Oh and I wasn't actually serious about it being you at LGI, might have thought it was if it was Royal Hallamshire.
I haven't been at the Hallamshire since 2006, over a year before I first heard of the show. But, I guess, great minds think alike. ;)

Has anyone seen the outtakes on the Extras DVD? There's one where they wasted a whole day because Gervais couldn't take Keith Chegwin miming the sexual act with his hands. Another high was Daniel Radcliffe corpsing over and over again at Warwick Davis saying 'flute'.

Then they're not so hot on comedy at all, really.

That, and the conservative comedians I've seen thrive on attack comedy. Dennis Miller, for one. Adam Sandler for another. That's about the only conservative comedians I know, actually.

I have seen some clips and it looked brilliant, so a few self important stars get the hump, I'm sure they will forget it all by the time the next free self back slapping ego award dinner invitation pops through the mansion door.

Go Ricky.

I'm conservative. Possibly to the right of Rush, I don't know. And *I* abhor what Gervais did.

Yes, doing exactly the job he was paid for, in exactly the manner was expected to, being the type of comedian that everyone knows he is.

Despicable.

1 or 2 things may of been a little  the Downey Jr remark for one, hes not a bad guy so I think there are better targets for Ricky BUT...

Overall he did his job well and thats what the audience at home want, the media are cherry picking what they want and using it out of context to sell papers/magazines/air time.

Ricky should host one of those roast shows ;)
