Lethal Weapon reboot in the works

Not all reboots suck, as we well know on this board. I think that some films are so much a part of the moviegoing public's psyche that it would be nigh impossible to do LW or BTTF justice. They've tried that before and it just doesn't work. The second Star Wars trilogy was like a train wreck that kept on going for years.
 
It's all about name recognition with the studios these days. That's why you have movies based on books that have nothing to do with the books, or those godawful Saturday Night Live sketches stretched out to 100 minutes.

There will be nothing "Lethal Weapon" about this remake. It'll just have the same name. Otherwise it's just another buddy cop flick.

Still waiting for that Casablanca remake with a high school setting and hip soundtrack for the kids.
 
In LW reboot, Riggs is still crazy but now it manifests itself by him screaming about how the Jews run the world and that women in short skirts should be raped by a pack of N----rs.

Why remake an existing, classic buddy cop film, when it's just as easy to create a whole new set of characters with the same formula? It's not like LW was the first-ever and only-ever buddy cop film made. There were plenty before and since.

The same reason why you reboot anything...it's well known, was usually a successful project when first done and it's got a built in audience of people who will watch the remake because they enjoyed the original. It's easier to sell a known product than something brand new.
