Has Anyone Changed Their Mind About The Movie?

I loved it the first time I saw it at the cinema, and I still love it just the same. Can't wait for the next one! :)

I disliked it more perhaps when it first came out, but I'm still very clearly in the thumbs down category. If it weren't for my friends watching it all the time and telling me how good it is and how I only hate it because I'm a nerd, I would probably be more forgiving of its flaws.

started with a crush on nuSpock but am quite warming to Cap'n Fine. Is that what we mean here ?

Didn't like it when I first watched it, and can't even get through the following viewings.

Are you trying to tell us that the "new" blood is putting down a Trek fan?...What does that tell you about this movie being "STAR TREK?!?

Was underwhelmed when I first saw it, but I didn't dislike it.

Subsequent viewings leave me with the same view-it was merely decent, that's it.

As others have mentioned here and in many other threads, it's basically a generic action sci-fi movie with a pretty weak story with severe lapses in logic. And I don't like the cliche juvenile-delinquent take on Kirk, and wasn't crazy about the portrayal of the new Spock either.

On the positive side, it has good special effects, brisk pacing, some good humor, and seeing Leonard Nimoy again as old Spock was awesome.

I loved it the 4 times I saw it in the theater and I must have seen it 25 times on DVD by now. I still think it is the best Trek movie ever!

Absolutely nothing, since the issue is with his friends.
But yet he is beiing called a nerd for NOT liking this film, from his friends who never got into Trek before....Put 2 and 2 together and I suppose you get a different number than what I get which is 4.

I went into seeing the movie with an open mind, and for me, enjoyed the movie immensely. The number of viewings since I purchased the blu-ray has been in the triple digits, and I love it just as much now as I did then.

So many good-looking men in a film set in my favourite fandom. How could I not like it? :p

Apparently. :brickwall: ;) :D

Unfortunately changing my mind isn't an option. Neither is steam cleaning.

That is what people usually refer to when they say "nerd rage". ;) (assessment not to be taken seriously)

Obviously we're all joking here... seriously though, I thought the film was fun to watch, well done and cool. I still think that. The handsome blokes are just a bonus. :p

I still like the film immensely although the more I get into Star Trek, I can see more merit to some of the arugements regarding the plot. However, I went into themovie with an open mind and was shocked at how much I genunely enjoyed it as a movie. I thought it was well-done. Were some things rushed like getting all the core members of the crew together? Yes but you have to have known that was going to happen. And that Kirk would be captain. Did we necessarily need Vulcan to be destoryed? Probably not but I think to allow for character growth for Spock and take him in a new direction, it might have been necessary. Only time will tell when the other movies come out.

The more I watch TOS and the other movies, the more I think the nuKirk characterization works. We are seeing him as a guy in his 20s with some obvious growing up to do (something I hope they desperately do in the next movie) but there are elements of TOS Kirk and earlier movie Kirk there.

This is definetly one of my favorite movies and I'm glad it came out so I could become a Trekkie.

You can put me into the switcher camp.

When I first saw the movie, the Kelvin scenes had me captivated. I remember thinking "THIS is the treatment Star Trek always deserved." And then the movie just fell apart from there with a lot of utterly stupid things that I won't go into here. Suffice it to say that I left the theater extremely disappointed -- a feeling that was made even worse while sharing a bathroom with two inarticulate morons dressed like gangsters that were gushing about how unexpectedly good the film was.

Since then I've softened my stance. I got over my inner Trekkie, and just accepted the movie for a fun popcorn flick set in space -- which would never have been a bad thing without the Trek label to begin with. I still roll my eyes at stupidity like Kirk with giant hands and "numb tongue" and Scotty's journey through the water tubes, but by and large, I've gone from hating the movie, to tolerating it, to actually enjoying it.

I'll certainly see the sequel when it comes out, but I won't be standing there at midnight, or even the next day. The kind of Trek that inspired me enough to stand for 12 hours in a line that wrapped around the theater multiple times in 1991 is long gone. It's successor is fun too, but it's not the same. And I'm okay with that now.

I loved the movie when it came out, and I still love it. I've only seen it 3 times - once in the theater and twice on DVD....but I thought it was great.

I think the casting was excellent in general, but I thought Chris Pine and Zach Quinto were especially great, making those roles their own, despite having HUGE shoes to fill. I thought they did the right thing in creating an alternative timeline - less to worry about with canon, more room to explore new possibilities. I thought the action moved along great, the humor was on-target and not over the top, and the CGI/effects were awesome.

I have no complaints with the film at all. :)

Loved it when I saw it in theatres still love it. I totally agree with PK about the casting. Pine is awesome as Kirk, in a way I didn't dare hope he could be, and Quinto is a really great Spock. Not to mention Urban's pitchperfect Bones. Was it perfectly written? No, Nero was not nearly the great villain he could have been, but overall I love the final result.

And the shot of the Enterprise rising up trough the athmosphere of one of the moons of Saturn still give me the chills.
