Playstation 3 busted wide open.

Ok thanks, I've done a full restore (took over 3 hours!) and it's reverted back to the official 3.55 firmware. He says the console was connected to the net after he installed it, so who knows what will happen! :scream:

"This case is about a lot more than what I did and me. It's about whether you really own that device that you purchased."
- Geohot

Damn straight.

Well i was on MW2 tonight for about 20 Min's and low and behold a hacker appeared in the room and bang, people just started falling over dead, then i get this unlock message pop up on screen so i hit leave but it made no difference as the hackers hack continued to unlock even after i had left the room.....so now all my emblems, titles and challenges are now all open, so no point in playing it now, unfortunately that's it, you cant remove this buggers handywork.

Of course it could be worse, they are also resetting peoples entire game to 0, i mean that must be a real killer for those who put the time in to reach that 10th level.

I would like to thank Geohot and Flow for their work in making this happen....thanks a lot.

Yikes. Sucks that some people insist on using this to cheat and otherwise fuck up the online experience. Sony would have every right to detect anyone using a rooted console and boot them from PSN.

I'm all for people having open access to the hardware they paid for but no one is entitled to screw up Sony's network or mess with other people's enjoyment of the device.

^^Yeah buggers the lot of them, and to think i was just last week thinking about buying the map packs for MW2.......i think we can safely now say that's not going to happen.

Maybe you should blame Activision for implementing such a shitty architecture whereby clients are able to alter other clients' data.

.

I'd complain to Activision. I'd tell them of my experience of how my game has suddenly broken, and that I'm dissatisfied customer, who wants her money back. I'd say that hackers are not my problem; it's Activision's problem because all I care about is what I experience for my money and whether or not it's worth it. I'd tell them how I'm now going to postpone buying a couple of their other latest games until I see how things pan out, because I don't intend to spend money and have a repeat of this experience. Then ask them what is going to be done and when.

ehh.. a bunch of nerds showing off their epeens... call me when they cure cancer.

What the fuck? Where did that even come from?

they focus their considerable talents on something worthless instead of something worthwhile.

this lame, "not my fault" attitude that hackers have. "oh we just want to open the system up. it's not my fault if someone happens to take advantage of all the flaws i help to unleash."

if the stuff they were doing only affected their own system and had no impact on anyone else. awesome. have fun with it. but since it seems that it could very well impact a lot of people in negative ways, well that sucks. sucks for sony, sucks for devs, sucks for the consumer.

Not quite Activision's fault that Sony used a really shitty encryption scheme.

It's a good thing no one has figured out my company's encryption scheme!

Yeah, cause it's never the fault of the irresponsible pricks who actually enable this bullshit.

Like darthraidr said; these hackers don't give a fuck about anything but their e-rep. They've probably just fucked up online gaming on the PS3 for a lot of people, but they don't give a shit as long as everyone knows how good at hacking systems they are...

"Oh, we don't condone piracy or cheating, but we'll show everyone else ho to do it, so we can show off our mad haxxor skillz to teh internets!!1111!"

Fucking pathetic.

Don't worry, I'm sure the law will side with your corporate fascist buddies. Liberty is so passé.

Aww, is The Man putting you down again? Didums.

Personally, I don't give a fuck about your little tantrum against the "corporate fascists", I just want to be able to play games on the system I bought, without some cheating arsehole making it impossible to play a fair game. Fuck anyone who gets in the way of that.

People who buy the games and the hardware with their hard earned money are quite entitled to be protected from idiots like Geohot and his acolytes, who's work leads to their purchases being destroyed, as has now happened with the PS3 version of MW2, just as it happened with the PC and 360 version.

Excaclty.....i don't care how Sony or Activision do it, i only care that they at some stage do, and sooner than later.

I don't play online gaming but thought I'd take a look, I just tried MW2 and it seems to be completely broken, one game, harrier jets just kept blowing us up from start to finish. In another as mentioned above, we just all died as soon as the game started.

Looking at the IW forum, the advice of the makers is:

1) We can't do anything about it

2) Only play with friends.

Not quite Activision's fault that Sony used a really shitty encryption scheme.

Pass blame wisely.

As a law abiding player, I don't care about Sony's encryption scheme. I don't need to understand it, know about it, or anything. All I care about is my game experience, which is between myself and Activision.

Activision may in turn want to pass blame to Sony, and that's upto them, and I don't need to know anything about that either.

Sony won't care if a few players complain to them. Sony will care if Activision complains to them.

If Activision is made to see see that it has a lot of unhappy players, who are postponing buying their new games because they fear a repeat experience, then they will have good reason to make that complaint.

But what can Activision do about it? If it was an exploit in their code that they could patch, then yes it would clearly be Activision's fault. However, the system itself is broken. They made this game with the assumption of a working encryption scheme in the PS3.
