Advertising Genius!

Son's restaraunt are looking for advertising ideas. So I came up with one ~ a cunning one at that!
You know the cheap chopsticks that you get with take-aways etc. the ones that are joined together...?

Well I printed of a few 1/4 of an A4 page with photos and details of the restaurant. With the ad line 'If you have not been there ~ you do not know'. Wrapped them within these chopsticks and presented them to the boss of Son's work.

It works brilliantly ~ you have to unroll the message and read it all. At the end you get a 'Golden ticket' for free drinks or discount (I'll leave the details up to them) They can be 'mailboxed' or passed in the street. His boss loved the idea and Michellen starred chef Scott Hallsworth thought it fantastic!
Sometimes the plan comes together :mallory:

What brilliant advertising/marketing ideas have you had?

Please beware, I may plagliarise:lol:

I'm afraid I am not much of help with advertising. People that need me, they know how to find me. And if they don't... they don't really need me. :shifty:

In retail, whatever seems like a good idea, do the opposite.

Rather than tempt people with free food and drink, motivate them with the knowledge that prices will be increasing from next month.

If a product is fairly popular, rather than stock more of it, stock less of it and customers will pressure themselves into buying more than they really want before they all get bought up.

If you believe that more choice makes happier customers, then do the opposite, and reduce the number of options they have. Have them buy the brands you want them to buy.

Shoppers are like sheep. They copy one another, and move in a flock, and the flock responds best to fear. So advertising should create unease. Not enough to push them away, but enough to motivate them with thoughts like "If I don't do this now, I may not have another chance."

I had a brilliant idea yesterday, but obviously i'm not going to tell everyone about it. :vulcan:

Does your son work with a Michelin-starred chef? Cool! :mallory:

Oh, I'm sure you won't plagiarise this one! When I was working at a children's centre I came up with the slogan "Let's Talk!" for the idea of introducing informal sessions to parents in our stay-and-play sessions regarding how to best communicate with their children (e.g. make eye contact, give the kids time to respond, get off your effing mobile phone, actually acknowledge your kids' existence...). The managers loved the slogan and contacted the local county speech and language specialists to tell them about our "Let's Talk!" campaign and asked if they could come over and give us some quick tips. It turned out that there had been a huge, county-wide communication campaign called "Let's Talk!" just a few years earlier, which was brilliant but far too complicated for us to implement into our plans. My managers freaked when they realised what was involved in implementing the actual "Let's Talk" campaign, and ended up with egg on their faces when they had to confess to the specialists that what they in mind was completely different. Had my brilliant slogan been rejected in favour of another one this mix-up would never have happened. :rommie: My managers never blamed me, though.

I specialize in George Michael-related advertising.

For General Mills: I want your Chex. Don't you think it's time you had Chex With Me!?!?

K'eh, i LOVE your idea!!!!!

Ok, so just like everything else in life, every situation reminds me of (either) a Seinfeld episode or Malcolm in the Middle ep.

In this case (the subject of advertising genius) i am reminded of a MitM ep:

Thank god for YouTube.

^You find him elusive and distant.

Well Italy is some miles away

The problem for the restaurant is that it is different and people are scared of it. In a road of pizza/pasta places (no offence Iggi) they stick to what they know. So it's really a case of 'get the people through the door and let them see'.

I did muck up a little though, when I took a friend there I said to the waitress 'I'm just taking him down to look at the Bi-sexual toilets' ~ yes! the word I was looking for was 'uni-sex', but it got a laugh!

Yes a proper chef! with a hat and everything :) When Son said he wanted to quit I replied "Well you better get used to saying 'do you want fries with that?' as that will be the only other option

Your 'Let's Talk' campaign is fab! When Son was in junior school his homework one night was to not play anything electronic or watch tv etc. We had a great night; playing cards, board games and reading to each other. We did that once a week for ages.
You do forget how important it is to talk ~ not just to your children but to partners, that's why Man and I go out once a week, on our own, and ... do the crossword!
But we have time to ourselves and end up talking about all sorts, which would not happen at home in front of the tele or the computer! :vulcan:

I specialize in George Michael-related advertising.

I see Cadbury's did the same with their careless Wispa campaign.

(I'll see myself out.)

You forgot your coat ;)

I have a brilliant concept to advertise one of my businesses. Unfortunately, it would take quite a bit of work to set up and I'm irredeemably lazy, so...
