US Representative, at least 6 others killed

I just finished watching President Obama's speech at the memorial service in Tucson, and regardless of your politics it really was a beautiful dedication that set just the right tone for the country and honored the dead, wounded, and the living who helped save lives that day.

I highly recommend you check it out if you get the chance and set aside any partisan or cynical thoughts for a moment and just enjoy it as an inspirational speech that sought to blame no one for their political beliefs.

It brought me to tears on multiple occasions, especially when they were talking about little Christina Taylor Green and how Rep. Giffords had opened her eyes earlier today with her husband there with her.

Here's the full video of President Obama's speech at the memorial:

It was a fine speech, appropriate for the occasion. This sort of thing from a president has more effect on the nation than the day to day stuff. Interestingly he essentially did everything that critics of his, pre-speech, were saying he *should* do in his speech (at least according to the two republican sites i read regularly, national review's 'corner' blog and HotAir).

"I want us to live up to her expectations. I want our democracy to be as good as Christina imagined it. I want America to be as good as she imagined it. We should do everything we can do to make sure this country lives up to our children's expectations."

This is one of the best things any President has ever said.

I agree. It seemed to be one of those moments you want to remember. Perhaps this quote will one day make it into history books.

enlisted person, I am ashamed to say that we live in the same state.
