Three Stooges Movie by the Farrelly Brothers

So... I guess the movie seems to be movie ahead.

When it was reported a few years ago, the cast was going to be Benico Del Toro as Moe, Sean Penn as Larry, and Jim Carrey as Curly.

Now... at first I was put off even by the idea. But then... with this cast, I became interested.

NOW? A different cast is being discussed.

Andy Samberg and Johnny Knoxville, along with Australian Shane Jacobson, are the leading candidates to play the iconic early 20th century comedians in a 'The Three Stooges' film.

Ack.

Johnny as Moe. Andy as larry and Shane as Curly.

I don't know Shane Jacobson, so I can't comment.

But ANDY SAMBERG... Bo-ring. I don't find him funny.

And Knoxville? Dude, just stick with Jackass.

My interest as waned.

Yeah, with this casting, I simply wouldn't do it. This is the kind of movie that should only be done if they get the perfect casting for it.

This..idea..must..die

For the greater good.

The Stooges weren't "characters" as much as they were extensions of the individuals. Personas they spent most of their lives honing through vaudeville and their early movie appearances.

What the Hell?

The Three Stooges weren't really characters in and of themselves so much as comedians. It's like trying to "reimagine" Andy Kaufman or Laurel and Hardy.

If it was a biography or something, that'd be fine. But... Jesus Christ.

So is this a biopic type film?

No. I think it's actually a "reimagining" of the Stooges with new actors playing Mssrs Howard, Howard and Fine.

There actually was a biopic some years ago with Michael 'the Shield' Chiklis playing Curly. He actually did a good job.

I guess he did about as good as possible but that was just painful.

Yeah, the clip was painful but I think with material he was given Chiklis did a decent job as Curly.

Wasn't Chiklis mostly portraying Curly as "Jerome Howard", ie: in his actual life?

I admit, as a huge stooge fan, I never saw the TV movie.

I don't have any problems with the casting (I like Knoxville and Samberg). I just hate the entire idea behind it.

I agree. The ideal thing would be having relatively unknown actors in the roles. Sure, great actors can assume the roles and make the audience forget who the actor is but even then there is an adjustment period in the beginning of the movie.

See, I disagree. I think if you did unknown actors we would only compare them to the original. Sean Penn as Larry, I am there, because I'm curious what Penn would do.

Unknowns... I think of that Dumb and Dumber prequel. Bleh.

Oh Lord.

Indeed. Why can't hollywood leave classic performers/performances alone? They were great the way they were, they were unique, and they damn well don't need to be "re-imagined."

A well done biography would have been fine, welcomed even, but I hope this film is ever made that it bombs on an epic scale.

Yeah, but then again known actors can often distract too much from the subject material. For instance, I once watched a movie about Pope John Paul II, and it had many big name actors in it, including James Cromwell, and I just found it too distracting. I had actually preferred another lower budget take on the story that didn't have big name actors in it because it felt more authentic in terms of having actors just play their roles for what they are instead of famous actors drawing your eye to them.

A really good actor can always make me forget or at least get into it enough that I don't think about it. A good recent example would be Al Pacino in "You Don't Know Jack". I can't think of any other biopics I've seen lately.
