This 80s arcade game is widely regarded to be one of the finest scrolling shoot'em-ups ever made. If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend giving it a go.
The first minute of the game is quite difficult, and to succeed you'll need to learn when and where to move your ship. If you fail to acquire enough upgrades in that time, you will really struggle with what comes later. With a well upgraded ship the latter part of the game is reduced to being a test of endurance.

At first glance the screenshot looks similar to Xevious because of the enemy and player ships. A couple things stand out though.
The background graphics are far too good to be Xevious.
Xevious does not have the power-up system shown at the bottom of the screen.
Whaaaaaaat! It has the exact same score screen, the ship looks identical, there are ground based and air based enemies, and the ship uses multiple weapons, exactly like Xevious!
I feel violated by myself.
Also Alien vs Predator is correct. Gold edition, of course.
