Favorite and Not-Liked Christmas Music

All of them. By anyone.

But now that I think about it, I think it was her version we had playing at the store I worked at. Wanted to drive toothpicks into my inner ear, and probably would have, if I didn't need my hearing to sing.

No hard feelings though. :)

I only heard it once...today...I really don't like Christmas music...even though I like Taylor Swift...I don't want to listen to it again.

I thought Tori Amos had a great Christmas album.

A song...Holly, Ivy & Rose | Tori Amos

:)

I really find I enjoy the 'oldies' of Christmas songs.

Like Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"

Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock" (Reminds me of "Home Alone: 2"...)

Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song"... makes me wanna snuggle up in front of a fireplace on a big comfy chair

Dean Martin's "Let it Snow!"

I also like The Peanut's "Christmastime is Here" (I sang it with a small jazz group and I fell in love with the melancholy of it.. so pretty.)

There are more, but I just don't have the mind to go find them. If I hear them, I let the song seep into my bones and make me feel nice and warm.

I'll admit "The Little Drummer Boy" isn't a bad song. As I said, it just makes me sad. So solumn to me. But even though I like Paul McCartney in general, I'm going with the consensus here. His Christmas ditty sucks.

Simply ha-ving a wonderful Christmas time.

:rommie: Definitely!

Let the children sing their songs... ding dong ding dong...

Over and over again... :scream:

I also love LOVE "Carol of the Bells"

Probably the song that pops in to my mind when Christmas comes around.

(I apologize for all the posts.. I'm pretty bored right now so I'm going a bit overboard..)

^^ I like!!

OOOHH, that reminds me of "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

I know it's more Halloween-ish, but I love all those songs.

I used to be a big fan of a music group called "Celtic Women" and I own their Christmas CD. I don't really like listening to it anymore, but they have one song called "Christmas Pipes" that's pretty catchy.

I also like the song "Ding Dong Merrily on High," not by Celtic Women, but by others. Again, go to youtube and watch the performance of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Renee Fleming. Makes me dance in my seat :)

I like pretty much every Christmas song out there. My favorite is any version of "Carol of the Bells," though TSO's rendition is quite awesome.

My absolute favorite Christmas song has to be Straight No Chaser's Twelve Days Of Christmas. Idk, having been in three choruses. a show choir, and a concert choir over the past 11 years, I've really gotten to enjoy this type of music, a cappella and big chorus groups and so on. Not to mention the arrangement itself is awesome.

That and I like Santa Baby too. I find it fun. Other than those, I tend to lean more towards the classic and religious ones (even though I'm an athiest  ) like Silent Night, The First Noel, etc. They sound... prettier and stuff, I like them better than most of the regular Santa-oriented ones.

As for ones I hate... The Paul McCartney one everyone keeps mentioning, plus any of the overly pop-ish or rock-ish ones. They just don't work IMO. Especially ones like Jack Johnson's version of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and Tom Petty's Christmas All Over Again, and so on...

Unfortunately, I work retail and those are the ones we play...

Here's a departure. How many Christmas songs can you name that don't mention Christmas in any way? Jingle Bells. Frosty the Snowman. What else?

I'm assuming you mean only secular-type Christmas songs, because many of the religious-oriented carols don't (like "O Holy Night" and "Away in a Manger" and "Silent Night"). To that end, these come to mind (as I've been hearing them all over the place for the last month):
-- "Sleigh Ride"
-- "Deck the Halls"
-- "Let It Snow"
-- "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year"
-- "O Tannenbaum"

Edit: OK, you mean don't mention Christmas in ANY way. So the religious carols don't use the word "Christmas," but they are all about it, anyway. Eh.

Sleigh Ride. Baby, It's Cold Outside. Those aren't Christmas songs. They are winter songs.

Right. Not just the word, but the subject. This pretty much lets out the religious carols by definition, although I kinda wonder about "Good King Wenceslas".

"Deck the Halls" does mention Yule repeatedly, and "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" uses the word Christmas. And "O Tannenbam"-- well. But "Let It Snow" and "Sleigh Ride" are good examples.

blueXmas: It's true that "Sleigh Ride", etc. are winter songs and not Christmas songs, but in this day and age, the two things are generally equated. When was the last time you heard "Sleigh Ride" in February?

Now that you mention it, all I seem to be asking is "how many winter songs have we adapted as Christmas songs?" It doesn't seem so interesting when you put it that way. :sigh:

On the original topic, I am absolutely in love with the Harry Simeone Chorale's rendition of "The Little Drummer Boy." Other versions I can take or leave.

Favorite Christmas Tune: Silver Bells.

Least Favorite: Madona's dreadful version of Santa, Baby. Eartha Kitt's is much better.

Eartha Kitt's version of that song can never be surpassed. I love listening to anything sung by her.

Some songs just shouldn't be sung by certain people. A Christmas album played at work years ago featured Stevie Nicks singing Silent Night, and it just sounded wrong to be, despite liking Stevie Nicks' music.

Merry Christmas.

I love "I Saw Three Ships" and "We Three Kings". I absolutely cannot stand that damn song about a friggin' hippopotamus. Hate it with a passion and hope it burns for eterntity.
