So apparently i'm not trustworthy...

I don't particularly have advice about anything for people who talk about being poor yet talk about owning a huge money sink in the same breath.

Being poor means making sacrifices if you want to stop being poor.

Nacelle, you say you're broke and in debt. How are you surviving? Do you have any source of income at all? Where do you live? How do you buy food for yourself and your horse? How do you maintain and gas up your car?

Im using the bank of mum and dad. Having said that i also have to live with them. Can't afford otherwise. My asshole bastard ex husband buggered off quite a few years ago and left me with absolutely nothing. The house we had went with his job so i had to move out.
I have some money coming in but have more going out than i do coming in.

I really don't see why this is a big deal. Why would you be entitled to someone's trust?

I find it reassuring that my dark arts remain strong enough to so far have accurately guessed how this thread would develop based on my first reading of the OP earlier this evening.

/buffs fingernails.

You needed dark arts? Me, I've gotten used to the sun coming up in the east. You see something like that happen for long enough, you start to expect it. ;)

my advice to you is to start drinking heavily.
Yeah, but that's your advice for everything. ;)

But as a default answer, it works pretty well for most questions. Unless the question is "how do I stop drinking?"

Are your mum and dad also subsidizing the care of your old and about to die horse?

How about your trips to Vegas? Seems like vacations probably aren't all that smart if you can barely feed yourself or pay any bills...

Have you thought about asking her why she changed her mind? If you had an answer, maybe it could be something you could reassure her about, or work on changing about yourself, then you would have a chance of getting the job if she goes away again.

If you are so conveniently placed, and know so much about her horse, she must have a very good reason indeed for not giving you the job. And you won't know the reason till you ask. If you don't want to ask, you just have to suck it up and find yourself other local employment. Why not sign up with this animal-sitting agency yourself?

My trip to trek convention once a year is a necessity and one I save for. I have to get out of this country at least once a year.

I already said in my original post she threw a bunch of pathetic excuses at me.
I wouldn't take it now if she offered double the money out of principle.

As above I did ask and got a bunch of pathetic excuses.
There is no other local employment. There are a lot of people out of work and no one can find any jobs at the moment as it is.
The pet sitter isn’t an agency. It’s just someone in my area doing pet sitting on the side.

For some reason I get the feeling that the old lady in question barely knows the OP.

She knows me perfectly well. I see her every day, talk to her and did get on well with her. My mum also does sewing alterations for her. I do have some health problems and she knows this but for now my health is fine and to use my health problems against me is I think discrimination, especially when I have help when I need it and a support network.

I really don't see why this is a big deal. Why would you be entitled to someone's trust?

What she said. The old lady doesn't owe you anything.
Actually, Pony Lady does owe nacelle something. She told nacelle that she would get the next opportunity to care for the pony. Not only did she renege, she handed nacelle a load of bull**** instead of telling her straight up why she wasn't gettting the job after all. She owed it to nacelle to give an honest and fair reason.

Another possibility: Maybe it's mostly about the other person, not about you. She might have some connection w/ the petsitter that you don't know about, and she's embarrassed to explain that.

I've had a couple very elderly pets, so I totally understand the bond you must have w/ your horse. If I were in your position, I'm sure I would considering keeping her to be a necessity.

On the other hand...

My trip to trek convention once a year is a necessity and one I save for. I have to get out of this country at least once a year.

Traveling abroad is a necessity? Oh, please!

Disappointing that you needed "dark arts" for that, Holdfast. Your powers must be slipping if you needed performance enhancers to bring you up to 'duh' levels of observation.
You needed dark arts? Me, I've gotten used to the sun coming up in the east. You see something like that happen for long enough, you start to expect it.

You're both right, of course. But using the Dark Arts allows me to wear a cape and look terribly dashing.

my advice to you is to start drinking heavily.

Excellent advice regardless of whatever thread it's posted in.

I'd like to know more about these dark arts you speak of. How do you use dark arts? What kind of dark arts are there?

my advice to you is to start drinking heavily.
Yeah, but that's your advice for everything. ;)

But as a default answer, it works pretty well for most questions. Unless the question is "how do I stop drinking?"

Actually, I think it works even then. You drink enough for long enough and eventually you quit drinking. Drinking, eating, breathing....;)

How about your trips to Vegas? Seems like vacations probably aren't all that smart if you can barely feed yourself or pay any bills...

How can you define an expensive trip abroad as a necessity when you can't even feed and clothe yourself (let alone a very expensive pet such as a horse) or even pay for your own shelter?:rolleyes:
