Now, there's a headline you'll never see in a paper :rommie: and I did omit the very nature of the computing device he built, but nevertheless, this guy built something you are welcome to get me for x-mas: The Antikythera Mechanism in LEGO!

Is that cool or what?

Well, there IS strong precedent for the "Apple engineer is at the forefront of computing" angle. Remember Steve Wozniak? I'm no Apple fan boy, but he was probably the most brilliant computer engineer of the late 70s.

He practically invented the digital "blue box" -according to the biography I've read anyway.

But since his departure lots of things have changed and today Apple isn't exactly known for engineering.

Yeah, I suppose that whole dealie where they practically invented large touchscreen smartphones and continue to push the envelope by making them ever thinner and lighter counts for nothing. Oh, that and the pioneering unibody construction techniques of their laptops. Oh, and that whole most modern, capably designed operating system thing of theirs. Hmm.

^Most of those things aren't Apple inventions... Apple is known for it's design only; touch-screen telephones, tablet computers, 'designer lap-tops' and a brilliant OS were all around before Apple decided to manufacture such things. What they are very good at is re-designing the package.
