I wasn't there when this happened, but I saw it on MLB Network awhile back. It was August 12, 1984 - Padres at Braves. I think you could call it "MLB Smackdown".

Padres/Braves Fight

Any other fights, brawls, punchups, etc. y'all would care to share?

Sure. The video quality does get better after the initial few seconds.

I'm also a fan of when Ron Hextall jumped Chelios.

Wow, I've never seen that before. Domi is such an asshole. I remember one play where the glass broke and a fan fell into the box and Domi just started beating him up. At first they were talking about classless Philly fans jumping into the box. Then they showed the replay and it turned out Domi reached over the glass and dumped his water bottle on the fan's head, which is what started the fight.

Major Junior hockey is such fun:

(These two teams had a bit of a rivalry going on the year this happened. The game before this clip, in London, had a full line brawl. But this is more entertaining, given how quickly everything happens. ;))

And the most famous incident in junior hockey:

At the 1987 World Junior championship in Czechoslovakia, Canada and the USSR became involved in a massive bench-clearing brawl. It lasted twenty minutes, and didn't end until arena officials decided to turn off the lights (which was only partially successful, as you can see a few minutes in). Both Canada and the Soviet Union were disqualified and banned from the end-of-tournament dinner. And both sides maintained it was the other that started hostilities.

Needless to say, Artest is a nutter.

Pffft baseball fights? If I wanted to see a chick fight I'd just go to this greasy bar in Surrey I know.

There's always the Rangers/Bruins brawl that went in to the stands and culminated in Mike Milbury beating a fan with his own shoe:

Don Zimmer was in a fight when he was a coach with the Yankees where he did a big fat old man belly flop when he swung on a guy and missed. Hilarious.

My personal favorite was between Colorado Avalanche Jeff Odgers and someone on the Bruins (can't remember who). They fought a couple times during the first two periods and then when they came out for the third period, they lined up against each other and Odgers had a band-aid across his nose. Before the puck dropped the other player made an exaggerated gesture in regard to the bandage, and then when the puck dropped, the gloves dropped. My wife and I were about 7 rows back and it all happened right in front of us. It was awesome.

There have been many fights during the State Of Origin, but in 1995 and in match 2 was a classic. Video. There are probably another 50 videos I could post from other Rugby League matches.

Is that the same fight where Zim was body-slammed by Pedro Martinez?

I guess you could call it that, if you wanted to be overly dramatic and a homer. Watch the fight again. Zimmer cocks his fist to take a swing at Pedro, Pedro steps aside and uses the fat guy's momentum to knock him down. Mostly a failed swing and miss. And since he was, you know, in the act of trying to punch a guy in the face (and Zimmer came off the bench, wasn't involved in the on-field problem), he had it coming, and more. I would have punched him, Pedro was nice to just knock him down.

As for favorite fights in that vein, Varitek/A-Rod has gotta be mentioned, as it was the momentum that took the Sox into the 2004 World Series.

For classics, there's the guy that rushed Nolan Ryan. Ryan just puts the guy in a headlock, takes off his glove, and uses his non-pitching hand to beat the crap out of his face.

My favorite is, of course, Izzy Alcantara. He realized that when rushing the mound, the biggest problem is that the catcher often prevents you from getting there, or kicks your ass once you do. Izzy beat the system by drop-kicking the catcher BEFORE charging the mound!

That was Robin Ventura, wasn't it?

Getting NOOGIED by Nolan Ryan in front of a live audience...gotta love it. :techman:

I think most hockey commenters would describe your average baseball fight as "a bit of a scrum." ;)

If they even bothered to take note of it at all. ;)

If by noogied you mean put in a head lock and receiving at least 5 good uppercuts to the face, then yeah.

The Ryan- Ventura bout looked like a hockey fight, Ventura's bleeding and Ryan's got his blood on his jersey.
