Design the Next Enterprise

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the winning design came from this forum. I know there isnt much there but what is is rather....crap.

Yeah, the best one I can find is the Excalibur class, which probably has zero chance of winning due to be all over the net.

BTW, is there any way to see the entire gallery of submitted designs?

I am still unable to upload mine it still tells me I am over the 1MB limit when my image is still only 200K. you would think they would have a better way to enter like they did with the Titan Contest. Give you an email to submit your designs to and then post them. This way is not efficiant.

absolutely. We've got some fantastic artists here. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with :techman:

I really liked my initial design, but in light of the 'not previously published' guideline I'm going to start a new one.
The design I had come up with was, I think, more fitting for a small, fast, border patrol rather than a flagship.

I'm gonna flip flop and try and enter something after all :P

Heh, I might do a big "frak you!" to cryptic and just make a little opening credit animation in the style of Star Trek Online.

The fact some people in the states can't even enter it is just ridiculous. And I hope someone vet's the Excalibur class they've just whacked up there. Im 99% sure whoever has submitted that wasn't the original author (although I don't know who that was. Im sure Lennier1 might though :p ).

Wow. That Gallery page is garbage. I'm gonna hold off submitting my entry for a little while if for no other reason than to hopefully give them time to fix the bloody thing.

Also, I suggest anyone who is planning to enter pay careful attention to the size and aspect ratio allowed by the image pop-up. You'll probably want to keep the number of different views to a minimum so what's there is large enough to be seen and properly evaluated. The actual judges may get to look at the originals, but not until after the top 25 have been selected by popular vote of visitors to the page.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you're probably better off to submit an eye-catching beauty shot rather than a 5-view since they probably won't be using these as blueprints to build the 3D model. Titan Designer can probably speak to this better than I can, but I think it's likely the contest winner will be asked to provide further design consultation, additional views, etc. The key at this stage is just to get the votes and the high ratings.

Amen Brother, Amen.

Thanks, I will more than likely submit TOP-SIDE-FRONT Vies then.

(If I can Ever Get the Thing to stop erroring out)

Hey, don't take my word for it. You're the guy who's actually been down this road. However, the rules do hint at the possibility of further involvement by the winner of the contest in the game model development process.

Yeah but the pocket books contest just had you email the submission not upload it to a FTP like site.

Possibly they are looking more for a nice piece of concept art with one or two 3/4 views, like what we've seen the pro designers create early in the production process.

That whole popular vote thing irks me too, since it would seem to reward early submissions, which would kill some really good late entries.

I dunno though. The more I see them mishandling this whole thing, the more it makes me want to start our own TrekBBS contest to design the E-F.

Well, I meant as far as the contest submissions not necessarily being all the game modelers would have to work with and, therefore, not needing to show every angle and detail. I may be wrong but I think the approach I'm going to take is one that shows my design in the best light rather than a tiny and cluttered 5-view or even a 3-view.

I'd be interested to know the exact formula they are using because it's not just a vote, it's a rating system. You might have a really lousy design with tons of 1-star votes and an awesome design with only a few 5-star votes. How would those compare?

So in the recent uploads section, we have the Enterprise-E, an existing E-F design, a blocky 1701 re imagining I saw on SFM a while back, an actually interesting original design, and a kitbash.
