And while I haven't got a class name, I've sort of come up with a "remit" for this class of ship.

"To uphold and preserve the values of the Federation in desperate times."

Something like that would be on the ship plaque. She's big alright, but she has that space for a reason - operational redundancy in the field of battle, emergency halls for evacuating large amounts of colonists along the front line in the war with the Klingons, advanced sensor equipment suites to explore further out into uncharted space with greater detail at extreme range (also - spying on cloaked Klingon activity) and an enhanced warp drive that allows it to operate at fractional velocities for extended periods of time (Warp 9.x).

Basically, she's a galaxy class for a time of war.

^ I'm guessing it is a fully integrated hull? No separation? I like the idea of it, and it certainly seems to match the role it's set for. It's too bad you can't enter it, I really like it.

Looks like the submission page is online.

    WARNING!!!

After reading through the rules, I have decided to pull my preliminary sketch and won't be posting any more updates here as Section 5 makes mention that elligible entries must be previously unpublished. Not sure if posting to this forum qualifies as "published" but I'm not taking any more chances than I already have.

Also, they are limiting the number of entries to one per person. Just FYI.

Good to know Vek! so this preliminary will be my last post. As it is still in development and is not finalized. And seeing as Originality is 50% of the judging, i do believe I am back to the drawing board since this in my opinion is way to shall I say repetitive of past ships.[IMG]

Damn, I should've thought of this. Looks like the edit period has closed on my old posts, and it seems that even if I delete my image from my hosting directory, it sticks around here (probably means my image is still hosted at its original location). Any thoughts on how we can rectify this? I'd hate to have my submission disqualified because I posted an unfinished (pre-sub) version here.

Then again, it's all based on the design I've been showcasing in another thread, so I'm probably screwed anyway. Or not. Depends on how harshly they want to enforce the gray-area web "publishing" issue.

Another interesting tidbit from the rules:
"Contest is open only to legal residents who are at least twenty-one (21) years of age of the fifty (50) United States and Washington D.C., except for residents of Iowa, Maryland, North Dakota, Tennessee, and Vermont"

I knew it would be restricted to the US, but I'm a bit surprised at the contest leaving out those states. Really not sure why.

I'm getting the same error with an 820kb PNG file.

This had better not be going through as multiple submission attempts...

    :klingon:

^png is not allowed. only bmp, gif, or jpg.

Also, is everyone seeing only the same 5 ships in the gallery? one being a double submission of art from the game.

That's strange...right under the submission field it says "files will be accepted in JPG, GIF, PNG".

Well this just sucks. I haven't been able to cram my design into something smaller than a 2mb JPG file, which is twice the size allowed, and the BMP is freaking enormous. I was really planning to submit as a PNG file. What the hell are they trying to do, here? Frustrate us all to death?

Also, it seems that I cannot post or reply to anything in the STO forums on the subject. Says I don't have permission, even though I already activated my account. No mention of a cooldown period, either. *grumble, grumble* If anyone has forum access, please post this problem so they know exactly how their shit isn't working. I just tried a tiny (sub-400kb) GIF and that's not going through, either.

Nice, that conflicts with the fine print which says jpg, gif, or bmp. Sounds like this is a real class act.

Everybody remember that you have until January 15th to enter your submissions, so I'm sure there will be plenty of time for any bugs to get worked out.

^Also remember that number of votes plays a part in winning, so don't wait too long to enter.

Yeah, the same 5 or 6 designs and nothing else. The STO forums are noticing the same thing, as well as having trouble submitting anything of decent size. I didn't think it was *that* hard for them to create a Photobucket-like tool. And this is the first website in *years* to actually crash my browser. :wtf: Whoever they got to do the website seriously screwed up.
