November Challenge-VOTE!

Alright folks, here we are. It's time to vote one which of these stories will when this months challenge.

As a reminder, the challenge had to do with Redemption. Not what they did, but what they went through to make up for it. I gotta say, I'm impressed with everyone so far. Haven't read Nerys' entry yet, I'll do that once I get the vote thread up. I'm sure it'll be great too though.

So, in no particular order, we have:

I don't know what I'd do if I could vote for only one I love the touching story by Nerys Ghemor, but I also enjoyed alternative future vision by Thor Damar. In a way both stories took cannon characters that left a lot to be desired in a matter of their conduct and showed us who they could be.

Well, it was difficult but in the end I voted for "Pearl" and "House Call", because those were the two that had the greatest emotional resonance with me, the former for its quiet dignity and the latter for the sheer complexity of feelings on display. Of course, that's only one of many ways to judge the effectiveness of a piece, which I guess is what made it hard for me, but I think those two made the biggest impression.

I enjoyed them all, though.

Okay, I've made my decision...

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and guls, the votes for the most redemptive fanfic this month goes to;

Deranged Nasat for his wonderful debut piece Vital Work in which the issue of personal guilt and redemption are dealt with so excellently. (I was also won over by the eloquence of the authors response to the comments. What can I say? I appreciate a literary monologue)

My second vote goes to the thought provoking my offering where the nature of revenge leads to a soul searching look into the essence of what an enlightened civilization should be. Plus it created an interesting debate in the comments afterwards.


My apologies to everyone else, your works are a testament to the skills that you all process as writers and it was truly an honuor to compete with you all.

Thor Damar...VERY good job!

And I'm surprised I'm voting for anything Voyager related--but I'm going to vote for BolianAuthor's work for my second choice.

Something tells me we're going to have a runoff vote...

Nasat's tale was my first choice, without a second thought. There's something poweful about seeing the hero going through the anguish of immense guilt...until at long last, that burden is lifted off his shoulders.

For second choice, I did a lot of soul-searching to decide between Damar and Nerys. Both very excellent (actually, all the choices were great--these two and Nasat's tale just stood out in particular for me)--but in the end...I had to go with Damar's tale.

There was an eloquent sense of "what might have been", taking a previously comtemptible character, and giving him a powerful moment of redemption--leading to his acceptance of punishment for his previous crimes.
