Did the BS fight scenes in Way of the Warrior slightly tarnish the ep?

Re: Did the BS fight scenes in Way of the Warrior slightly tarnish the

But the fight scenes were really gay lol.

I'm gay. I'll never get used to coming into a thread online and seeing that word used that way. It will always be offensive that someone uses a word that describes my identity to denote that something is stupid or wrong. Thanks, ever so much for making me feel welcome.

I'm going to put this on you.
You shouldn't need this sort of acceptance in your life. Everyone has their own beliefs Everyone makes these kind of social choices and it's apart of the culture.

Regardless of other peoples opinion on A LIFESTYLE you ARE welcome here. If I can ignore all the profanity on the site you can ignore the negative inference. "Don't take a fence, that's not yours"...meaning if someone really wasn't trying to offend you why use all that energy to take offense?

Here, all you have to do is be a Trek Fan. Sort the rest out later...

Saquist, that is a COMPLETE and UTTER load of BS! And way to put your judgements on gay people by calling it a "choice." How do you know it's a choice and not a biological tendency? There are, sadly, plenty of people who literally hate themselves for being gay ... don't you think they'd change if they could "chose" to?

And obviously, using the word "gay" in a degogatory/negative way or being ridiculed for the so-called "choice" can be extremely traumatic - or haven't you heard about the suicides of severely bullied gay teens? If someone on this forum used the N-word and an African American took offense, I bet you'd be singing a different tune...

To the OP, this is nothing against you. You've apologized for causing offense where none was meant, and I think you'll think twice the next time you want to use the word "gay" when what you mean is "stupid of lame." But for this guy to sit there and chastise someone else for taking offense at what is essentially the equivalent of a racial slur ... I'm sorry, I just can't tolerate that.

.

The pejorative use of 'gay' is not an issue so much because it can hurt people's feelings, but because it can hurt people. It dehumanizes people, and that's the first step to marginalization and all sorts of unpleasantness. Think of how popular "Jew him down" and related phrases might have been in Europe around the 1930s.

Thank you, smellincoffee. Someone who understands.

Re: Did the BS fight scenes in Way of the Warrior slightly tarnish the

Exactly.

Oh. And I like your avatar DS9 Gal AZ. I loved "The Ship" and had always hoped that they'd bring Kilana back in a later episode. I wonder whatever happened to her?

About the fight scenes in "Way of the Warrior". I think they do seem a bit on the lame side, but at the time, in Trek, this installment was a massive undertaking...not just on an action level. Bringing in Worf was a bit of a gamble I think, and they wanted to get it just right...and for the most part I think they did really well. I mean...we got a great Worf story, but I think every character (and even some recurring ones) got some great scenes in this episode and that's what impressed me. I remember thinking the space battle with DS9 defending itself the way it couldn't in the pilot was cool and just digging the whole episode when it aired.

Thanks, neogothboy74. I like your avatar too - and your handle! Yeah, I wish they'd brought Kilana back. "The Ship" is one of my favorite episodes. The actress did go on to do a guest spot on Voyager though.

Anyway, if the Way of the Warrior fight scenes were not so hot, well, when were there good fight scenes in DS9? In "To the Death?" which had to be cut for violence? Like, what would you (or anyone) have wanted the fight scenes to be more like, in comparision to other DS9 brawls?

I'm sure fight scenes are really complicated to choreograph and all that, probably pretty easy to mess up.

Re: Did the BS fight scenes in Way of the Warrior slightly tarnish the

SilentP made the exact point I was going to make on this thread...you can be a warrior all your life, but if you come up against someone trained (which they def are in Starfleet) and with some physical conditioning, skill and motivation, you aren't necessarily going to win.

Re: Did the BS fight scenes in Way of the Warrior slightly tarnish the

DS9's fight scenes are terribly hokey and unbelievable across the entire series. The problem is by no means exclusive to WOTW. There are many other episodes which could be cited for having the same problem. They should have fixed all of them before the episodes aired.

Re: Did the BS fight scenes in Way of the Warrior slightly tarnish the

^I think you're right. DS9 did a lot of things very well, but fight scenes weren't really one of them.
