Doctor Who night on Craig Ferguson Late Tue/Early Wed

Meh.

Too much silliness, not enough discussion. What did we learn? Matt Smith is shooting in Monument Valley, Utah ... he now has a girlfriend possibly named Tiffany whom he may have met in Las Vegas ... and he's not really talking about playing the Doctor beyond the current year (due to reluctance to continue in the role, or because he's too much of a pro to get into contract-related discussions?)

No behind-the-scenes gossip, no clues about the upcoming season -- in short, a waste of time except for an opportunity to practice my Scottish accent. Which varies between brilliant and horrible depending on who you ask.

Ferguson and his Dalek prop. :)

so Doctor Who being on a talk show that airs after midnight, counts as "finally arrived" ?
Pretty much. It's not like Doctor Who will ever make Good Morning America or Today. Craig Ferguson is easily the biggest mainstream moment for Doctor Who, outside of the 1996 television movie.
its a shame Doctor Who cant be better than a post midnight talk show.

I think the funniest part was when the host called the Dalek an esperoo machine, not sure what the horse had to do with anything but that is most likely an in-joke.

It is. That is S..... The last horse to win the triple crown. He has it come out and everyone dances around for a bit.

You clearly don't understand the point of American late night TV, it's to be entertaining, and it was. Matt Smith fit right in. If you want spoilers look on the internet.

That was awesome. I think I came like ten times while watching that.

Here's my number.... ;)

I hope the 2012 rumour is a myth, I'd like Moffat to be in charge at least 3/4 years personally.

Thing is he has a young family, so you can understand if he doesn't want to spend too many years regularly apart from them.

As much as I wouldn't want to see him get the job I'd say Gatiss is a shoo-in to replace him when he goes.

Well that's fair comment, but its not like he's in LA, only Wales :)

Guess it depends if Gatiss even wants the job really. I'm not sure I want Who to go all League of Gentleman on us...

still not sure why that is funny, but ill go with it.

Im sure if I was asked to explain TV Burps Kinitted Character to a non-Brit, they wouldnt understand it.

I know he's busy with Camelot, but I'd like to see what Michael Hirst (The Tudors) would do with Doctor Who as a writer/producer.

I'd also be interested in seeing Richard Curtis' Doctor Who.

Great interview (once I finally got to see it). I especially liked the bit with Matt and the mouth organ.

My only nitpick would be the cat at the end. Instead of the transporter cat they should have had a Dalek yelling exterminate then have it's head pop up to reveal the cat's which pormply tilts and meows.

I think Ferguson was very honest that he thought the entire thing was a shit job by his producer. He salvaged the show, but it seems that there is zero support for this guy's show behind the scenes...

That's kind of a running gag that Craig thinks he's done a shit job and he often makes fun of and blames his producer for things (a little more mean spirited this time due to the theme tune rights snafu).

Which he's pointed out on and off since the early days of the show by referring to the crap lighting, the leaky studio roof, and the lack of a band.

It's definitely great to see Matt Smith on an American talk-show, but that was the first and last time I'll watch Craig Ferguson. Is the guy always like that? At times he seemed half drunk, and he was far too shouty for my taste. The Dalek prop was cool though.

That's what makes him awesome. However he has not had a drink since 1993. Plus I think he was really pissed off at the skit being canceled at the very last second.

It's funny because the show is a joke in itself. The show cost 5 cents to make, but Craig makes it work because he is just a normal guy that bitches and swears about things. He has had very serious people on the show and talked about very serious things. He gives off this sense of being friends with people. Kristen Bell and Betty White argue on who Craig likes more. He seems more in touch with who he has on the air than every other late night guy.

The horse thing is funny because there is no point to it, but he just does it to liven up the show.

His puppets are great fun, which you saw not singing. He did his 1000th episode as a puppet of his and bitched about how Craig couldn't even be bothered to show up for work. It's all just simply nuts and completely insane.

That's why Matt Smith was on the show, everyone else on TV doesn't care, Craig is an honest fan of the show.

You also got to see the host when he was, for an hour, an honest-to-god fanboy, and I think that's pretty endearing. You'll always have talk show hosts of all kinds suck up because their guests are important, but this time the host was genuinely excited and giddy. I'd cut him some slack (if his crew in those costumes at the beginning were a clue, professionalism is the last thing on his mind).

And freeze frame high five for the win.

Well, his cold opens are often insane.

A couple of my favorites:

I bet the Doctor Who dance would have been epic.

for all we know it might be someone no one's ever heard of...and for all we know Moffat might do the show till 2017!

Curtis...hmm, not sure about that. He is a good writer, and The Doctor and Vincent was a wonderful episode, but he doesn't have any kind of history with Who-which isn't essential I guess- and more to the point would he even want the job given the workload we know both RTD and Moffat have had to put up with.

Then again you have to wonder how much the workload is considering Moffat had time to write/produce on Sherlock as well...

As for Ferguson...I found him somewhat annoying, but then I'm not big on chat shows anyway.
