Doctor Who night on Craig Ferguson Late Tue/Early Wed

Heads up, according to my DVR it's a "Doctor Who themed night" on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson(U.S.) with guest Matt Smith. Piqued my curiosity for sure. Though technically the episode airs after midnight early Wed I generally think of this as being on the Tuesday Night show.

Craig Ferguson has promised there's going to be a Dalek prop, too!

I suspect this is the first time the active Doctor actor has appeared on a late-night American talk show.

To this American Who fan, this feels like the moment when Doctor Who has finally arrived. Oh, Who is niche over here, and Who will probably always be niche over here, but for one fifteen minute segment, it's not. And that's an awesome thing. :)

Awesome! Must remember to set DVR.. It's rare that I'm up that late anymore..

Shades of the Rush themed Colbert Report from a couple years ago!

Ferguson promoted tomorrow's episode with a RTD dalek which looked really good.

He raised the eye stalk up and down

"When it's up it's excited, when it's down it's sad"

Wow, I really need to remember to watch this. I'm notoriously bad at such things, and for some reason I still haven't gotten a DVR. :ack:

Should be a great show. :D

so Doctor Who being on a talk show that airs after midnight, counts as "finally arrived" ?

You yanks and your crazy talk shows

Ferguson and his Dalek prop. :)

Pretty much. It's not like Doctor Who will ever make Good Morning America or Today. Craig Ferguson is easily the biggest mainstream moment for Doctor Who, outside of the 1996 television movie.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the late night chat show thing is a much bigger deal in the US than the UK? If so, then it's an excellent way to reach more people.

I dont think Craig Ferguson is the "king" of late night, I would think more if this was the Conan,. Letterman or Leno show

I don't care if it's on the fucking Home Gardening Network, it's Doctor Who on American mainstream television. Any attempt at trying to undersell this is going to fail....

Trust me on this, wamdue. Matt Smith will fit in best with the anarchic flavor of Craig Ferguson's show than he will would any other. Okay, maybe Conan, but definitely not Leno or Letterman. And while he's not the "king" of late night television by any means, he has a young, smart, and very devoted audience. Craig Ferguson is important.

(I'm still pissed at Letterman for snubbing Elbow last year; he booked them for his show, had them backstage waiting to come on, and then ran out of time.)

And what The said. This is Doctor Who on mainstream American television. This is a Big. Fucking. Deal. for Doctor Who on this side of the Pond.

I'm actually on Team CoCo myself. But, I know LOTS of people who watch Ferguson religiously. I would actually have a heterosexual erection if Smith were to appear on Conan, no doubt. But, you would need two full nights to do it. With Smith's energy and Conan's random wit, the interview would take forever to even get to Doctor Who! :techman:

On a show watched by less than two million people in a country of over three hundred million. (Exactly like Doctor Who.)

It's only the fact that nobody watches his show that means he can have him on.

I can't wait to see this. I love Craig Ferguson, but don't watch late night TV very often. I am SO going to record this if I don't watch it live.

I agree. This is probably the highest profile interview for anyone in Doctor Who in America that is.

This isn't like one of those small interviews in New York promoting series five.

What I like about low tier talk show hosts is that that they get B and C level actors.

I couldn't believe it when Mark Harmon was on Lopez.

It is better than nothing, it just does not seem like that bigger deal, when the show is on past midnight.
