Time for a Cybermen redesign?

Oh, and I'd love to see the annoying clanging sound when they walk go away too.

I totally agree about that. It just serves no purpose besides being really annoying.

Yep. Can you imagine how crazy-spooky it would be to have near-silent Mondasian Cybes lurking from the shadows? None of those insipid "Delete!" catchphrases or loud metal stomping in unison nonsense...

But why'd it have to be gold to clog it up? It is a bit silly, but then many Who foes have daft weaknesses (take the Sontarans!

You'd have to take that up with Gerry Davis or Robert Holmes. Cuz I'll be dipped if I know. :)

Thankfully, judging by their quick appearance in The Pandorica Opens, the Moff is toning that crap down a lot.

Well RTD did give them a silent mode in The Next Doctor ;)

Having seen the live I have changed my opinion slightly. When they're stomping and marching togeather they look really cool, its when they go off seperately and stomp around that they look stupid!!

Let me wheel this old pic out one more time as my personal choice on how I would like to see the Mondasian's Cybes appear...

That's creepy. I'd like to see it with the areas around the eyes and mouth reddish instead of black--like it's flesh that's healing around an implant.

Anyone else ever read the novelisation of Tomb Of The Cybermen?

There's a scene in there the describes the evolution of the Cybermen and one talks about the human face behind the cyberman helmet - the pic above could suit that nicely.
(though I was disappointed when I finally saw the episode and we didn't get to see the pictures of the evolution of the cybermen).

Though the pic above does make me thing of what ADavros would be like if he went through cyberconversion.

Hmm, what was that I said about it being too close to the Borg? I don't care, this is perfect (even if there is a little bit of Hugh around the neck area :p )

Completely disagreed. Nowhere in that episode, or in Doctor Who at all, does it say anything about the Cybusmen that appeared being Mondasians. If it's not on the screen, it doesn't exist...

A picture speaks a thousand words - the Cybes in TPO came in *ships* in Roman times, and the ship we saw was pretty identical to the ones in The Invasion. So, sorry, they're our universe's cybes...

Speaking of pics - that's a nice converted Leatherface. Wonder if he'd have a built-in chainsaw?

The Cybus design looks fine. Why spend money on this?

Because you and five other people like it. Meanwhile, the rest of us want something new. Just that simple.

But, that's an extrapolation mixed with guesswork. Nowhere in the episode did they say it was the Mondasian Cybes. Nowhere did they hint that. At all. They were, literally, the Cybusmen outfits, clanging around like the Cybusmen, and talking like the Cybusmen (about the threat The Doctor carried for ALL universes...why would Mondasians care about other universes?). In the end, I am left with only one real conclusion: These were the Cybusmen. Seems pretty clear-cut and obvious to me...

Couldn't hurt! ;) I'd love to see some technical improvements to the Cybermen... :techman:

All ten guys on the Internet?

I have yet to see this verified, but TV Tropes claims that Moffat has said they were Mondasian Cybermen, not Cybus Cybermen.

You got it! You five got your prancing metal tits for five RTD years. You can't expect DW to pander to the minority longer than that, though. Time to go back to the superior models now, for the rest of us. :)

I've heard the same rumor. Yet, in the end, they had Cybusmen in the show. So, I guess he might have wanted the Mondasians, but just didn't have the budget. Maybe next season?

Wow. "Five RTD years?" Those must have been an awfully long six entire episodes the RTD Cybermen appeared in! ;)

Aaaaaaand... You know which version of the Cybermen is more popular, how?

So if Moffat says they were Mondasian even if they looked Cybusian, his word doesn't count?

Well, verify the accuracy of the rumor, first. But, honestly, it would be like him saying the Daleks in PO/BB were the gold RTD ones. It makes no sense compared to what we saw on the screen. Thus, unless someone on screen says that those were Mondasian, I think what walks like a duck, looks like a duck, stomps like a duck, and quacks like a duck is...in fact......wait for it...........yes, that's right: a duck.

Common sense. :techman:

I have some quibbles with the way the new Cybs have been written (though I like the visual design) but I also don't see why them coming from Cybus or Telos or Mondas makes a difference. If Tom MacRae sat down to write another Cyberman story, I doubt he'd be saying, "Well, I was writing the Cybermen as super crappy because they came from alternate Earth, but now they come from duplicate Earth, so I'll write them as awesome."

"The Next Doctor" would play out exactly the same if the Doctor had said these Cybermen had come from Mondas in the 1980s instead of the Void, and as the dispute in this thread indicates "The Pandorica Opens" would go exactly the same way whether those Cybermen were from Mondas or Cybus.

It's a difference that makes no difference.

Is there a reason the Mondasian Cybermen can't look like the Cybus Cybermen?

Nothing says they can't, no. They just don't. Do birds look like planes? Do cars look like bulldozers? So far, we've seen nothing in Doctor Who that says Mondasian Cybes have suddenly changed to look like Cybusmen.

Are you going somewhere with this, or just nitpicking to be heard? I can tell you're edging around for a debate here. But, honestly, you should pick another subject. This one isn't even debatable. Facts are facts.
