That's when everything changes.. speculation?

That parking brake line was pathetic. It's like they've not got enough confidence in the show to take it completely seriously, so they approach stuff like that in a postmodern ironic whatever way. It's a real shame.

Yeah, mixing humor with entertainment like that. Tragic.

It's a self-conscious way of apologising for the show and what it is. It's the same kind of fannish embarrassment that filled the NAs with teenage attempts at being grown up. It symptomatic of being afraid of the show taking itself too seriously, because then it has to stand up to another level of scrutiny.

Wait, there was a point that Doctor Who took itself seriously?

I like the Ood's reaction to the joke, Ood Sigma was like WTF are you talking about? Bones if I may ask...if you detest the show so much why do you bother watching it? Is it in hopes of it one day conforming to your view of the show, or do you watch it just to constantly bitch at it?

Of course there was, why there was the episode where the Doctor fought a giant liquorish allsort, or the time the 4th Doctor looked at the camera and said "Not even the sonic screw driver will get me out of this one." or maybe even when the First Doctor broke the fourth wall to wish everyone a happy Christmas :)

And of course the classic series would never demean itself with the kind of kiddie friendly/poupularist TV cross pollination that certain posters moan about the nu series doing would it?

^ What the hell?

The show's strength lies in not taking itself seriously, surely? If nothing else, it makes the real serious parts stand out even more.

Ah Jim'll Fix It...

And yeah, has the show ever been completely serious? Even at its gothic/horror best it still had moments where it didn't take itself completely seriously.

It's about time we got our zombie season. Katarina, Sara Kingdom, and Kamelion also return.

Not to mention Astrid Peth and Adelaide Brooke.

Actually, a Doctor Who version of the Blackest Night storyline from DC Comics (dead heroes and villains being brought back to life as zombie-like undead) would rock.

About 37 years and a TV Movie, yes.

I've answered many before you on this, and it's a tedious one that gets trotted out. If having someone here that disagrees with you is troubling to you, then you have my sympathy/pity. But I'm a Doctor Who fan. Also, you'll find I was mostly positive about the previous season, especially for The Beast Below, Vincent and the Doctor, and Matt Smith. So get your facts straight. I do not detest the show, but am disappointed when it falls short of its potential as new Who all too often does.

I was actually honestly trying to ask a serious question as I've never seen you give your previous answer before, how can I get my facts straight if you won't provide the information for me or provide me with references to previous posts of yours? I'm glad your critical of the show and I'm not trying to attack your beliefs, just seems at times you are overly critical of some aspects of the previous regime, again all fine and good.

I'm sorry for misinterpreting your comments as hostile, but I've had a lot of the same comments from less friendly people. And isn't why I watch the show obvious? Don't I strike you as a Doctor Who fan?

I like most of the Doctors, albeit to varying degrees. The only one I completely dislike is Eccleston, and to a lesser degree I'm not much of a fan of Davison or Tennant.

The parking brake line was brilliant, IMHO. It was a funny way of showing that they're not too reverent about the show, and that nothing is really written in stone. Completely unexpected.

I still maintain that the best part of that joke was Ood Sigma's non-reaction to the joke and the Doctor's disappointment at him not getting it.

Are you mixing up the joke in The End of Time about the beep for central locking on a car and the joke in Flesh and Stone regarding the hand/parking brake still being on. Ood Sigma was only in one of those episodes ;)
