Team CoCo news...

Jon Stewart at 11, Colbert at 11:30 and Conan at 12. That's a pretty awesome fucking block of television right there! :)

As an American, I am jealous and therefore hate you :)

I haven't had a chance to watch the episode yet (I recorded it on DVR), but apparently the debut earned 4.2 million viewers, beating out both Leno and Letterman.

As a member of Team CoCo, let's temper that down a bit, from lessons learned in the past. If his ratings remain consistent after a week or two, then yeah, I'd say let's celebrate numbers. But Conan's first and last episodes of the Tonight Show were similarly strong because of special circumstance.

^ I don't believe there's anything in my previous post that needs to be "tempered down," nor did I "celebrate" - I simply relayed numbers. It goes without saying that it was a special circumstance.

I'm just saying, emphasizing his victory over Letterman and Leno has, in the past, been a misleading way to frame ratings for poor Conan. Don't get me wrong, I wish him the best of luck and I'll be watching, but the past should teach us to say whoa there from time to time.

Yeah, stoned Seth and his stupid laugh was a low point but everything else was terrific. So great to see Andy back. I saw Pender, LaBamba, so that's all very good.

I'm wondering how much of a change there will be in a more limited budget? I think they blew the first week's wad on the intro movie! :D

So looking forward to more Coco tonight.
Love the graphics, (the shows have titles? Cool!) and the orange hair logo is terrific.

Anyone notice the awesome Basic Cable Band graphic on the drum kit?

Personally, I think he probably shouldn't go on with the "basic cable" jokes either. It felt more apologetic and unsure than self-deprecating in a Craig Ferguson kind of way.

Yeah I have to agree. Despite all the nice talk beforehand, you could definitely see it in his face that he was a bit ashamed to be stuck in basic cable now.

That said though, I still thought the first ep was a lot of fun. The opening was great, Conan seemed a lot more engaged with the guests than usual, and Andy felt much more like his old relaxed self (and not as annoying as he was on The Tonight Show).

And the new set looks MUCH cooler than the previous sterile one.

I did, bill. Laughed my butt off when I saw it, too.
As for Conan being on basic cable, this is the best thing that could have happened to him. When he was on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, he had to fight for what he had. It made him funnier, edgier, and more prone to crazy hijinx that we've all come to know and love. A performer works best when he's starving. Compared to his previous position, he is now starving. This can only go up.

Coco.... sticking it to Leno with ratings!
(I know this may never happen again, but it's music to my eyes to read it!)

"...the premiere of Conan O'Brien's new TBS talk show put the whooping stick to all his late-night rivals, with "Conan" scoring a heady 4.2 million total viewers. That catapulted him ahead of not only "The Daily Show" (with 1.3 million viewers) and "The Colbert Report" (1 million viewers) but NBC's "Tonight Show With Jay Leno" (3.5 million viewers) and CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman" (3.4 million viewers)."

Loved the cold opening, enjoyed the monologue and video bit... show went downhill as soon as Seth Rogen arrived.

Honestly unless its a knock-it-out-the-park guest, Conan is wasted with talk show stuff. The show should be a full on comedy show, with one and only one guest.

^^ Agreed. Here's hoping Conan will loosen up in the weeks and months to come and really do his own thing. I think TBS trusts him to do what he likes. They wouldn't have got him otherwise.

Think TNG in it's first season... the weakest points were the episodes that seemed to be straining to be similar to the camp spirit of TOS 1960s. It started improving greatly when it became it's own beast.

Coco will find his stride.

Speaking as someone an hour into the future, Conan's already letting loose. I am laughing myself purple.

I had made a compilation video of all the funny dubs from an old TBS taping of Die Hard II and they made me take it down for copyright violation. Now I know why, they thought I was going to steal all Conan's good material.

And The Flintstones? Tom Hanks hasn't watched TBS in 25 years. :)

I love Tom Hanks.

Don't forget that Hanks was Conan's second guest on the Tonight Show and I believe he was the second to last guest on the old late nite before Conan made the transfer. It might actually be a thing they've started between them, because he made the joke about being the second guest on his univision show in 7 months.

What is really interesting is the number of "big names" who are baking Conan. I mean, Conan has no problem getting "names" from both the movie and music industries onto his show.

Ya gotta love Coney, baby!

Indeed. I think he's still got a little bit of tonight show baggage, he still feels a little cramped and uneasy.

Oh, does anyone know if Conan's presence on the channel has effected George Lopez's ratings?

Looks like it did

Conan O’Brien’s return to late night TV is certainly the talk of the town — and his TBS debut has the ratings to prove it! The beloved host raked in 4.2 million viewers to TBS for the first episode of Conan, which beat out The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report! Conan was also a very lucrative lead-in for Lopez Tonight which had some of its highest ratings.
