StickPrise

What I CAN do for you, if you wish... is make a nice set of orthos plans for her in Illustrator, but they'll be in black & white. So if you give me views to work from, I'd be happy to do that for you.

That is the ONLY view I have of her, so far.

I'm working on more but I haven't figured out what everything is supposed to look like. Heck, I haven't even figured out how big she is (though, for the record, I'm leaning towards her being a fairly small, older ship.)

If you want to... indulge yourself, Mr. Sulu, feel free to take creative license with her.

(Besides, what higher compliment can be given to an artist's work, than when other artists run with it and say, look what I came up with, a project inspired by your sketch of such-and-such.")

BTW, I just priced Photoshop and Illustrator for my new Apple machine.

BOY, talk about sticker shock. My pills! MY PILLS!!!!

LOL... aye... they do cost a pretty penny.

Okay... I'll have a go at the view you've posted so far, and see what happens.

Here is a cheap Kit-Bash for the time being - the Stickprise NX-01

erifah,

I am going to be basing my version on the first image you posted below... I think there's something really graceful about this first pass. I'll be postin' my first WIP for you tomorrow.

How do YOU envision the saucer being attached to the... stick?

I'm thinking that it sort of sits directly on top of the... stick, very tight.

Okay... it's not much, but this is what I have so far. I am not real happy with the "paneling" on the wings, so I may redo that part, but I like the saucer and forward section.

Hmmmm. Interesting interpretation of the navigational deflector housing.

I was going for a big heavy-duty... thingie... suggesting a lot of bulky, important equipment crammed into a tight space.

Your take has a hint of art deco or something more graceful and elegant from a 1920s - 1930s New York skyscraper.

Aye... the outer casing does look kinda NYC art deco-ish. But I was planning on adding the little details inside later on. I may just redo everything aft of the saucer, because I'm really not feelin' how that part is right now.

In the ST III novel, wasn't there supposed to be a pre-Picard Magellanic Cloud class Galaxy that was to be un-armed that was similar-shaped?

From time to time, I like to step away from my designs, and forget about them. Then, I like to sketch them again, without referencing the original drawings.

I find it to be an interesting brain exercise to, instead of constructing something from scratch, draw & capture the essence of something that already exists, as though it were my variation of someone else's concept.

Here's what I came up with on the StickPrise just this morning, while on a boring training call:

Wow, that came out great. :)

Are those two extensions on the sides of the neck meant to be docking ports?

Looks instable. The middle section reminds me of proposed NASA spacecrafts. They are not very agile like usual Trek ships use to be.

That's not what they started out as. I originally had intended to have some sort of a ring there.

But, as I stared adding in details, the ring looked like two booms with stuff going on.

I decided that they were, indeed, either docking ports or landing platforms, or a combination of both.

I started to think, "why on earth would it need docking ports on booms?" Well, maybe it's in a variation of a reality where transporters can't be used as willy-nilly as we usually see in Trek. And maybe there are spacecraft you don't want inside your shuttle bays, and/or they are too large and/or cumbersome to sidle directly against your primary hull.

That's actually the look I'm going for - instable, somewhat fragile...

I'm looking to achieve the same effect as they did with TOS Enterprise, with it's long, thin struts holding massive nacelles - the fact that they couldn't work by our standards suggests mysterious, advanced futuristic engineering that makes it all possible.

Both ideas sound good to me. :) I really like that it looks fragile, and unusual... Trek ships had started to look very crunched in towards the end, and I think they started looking like unibody cars. :)
