Now you probably had to do this in school, but this time go all out.
If you could create a nation of your own design what would it be like.
How would you structure your nation?(Citys, small town, Advanced futuristic flying cars)
What would your government system look like?
What would your education standards be?
Whats your two languages, do you only have two?
I will share my design in the end.

I know that my ideal country would be a benevolent dictatorship (with me being the dictator).

The money I would save by not having to have a government I would put into education and health.

People would have the right to petition me on important matters.

I would have the best public transport system of any country.

So long as I had good translators I wouldn't care what language people spoke in their own home. People would also be free to practice most religions they liked as long as they didn't proselytise In public or door-to-door.

I think I would simply like to take over Tasmania, or else create something very similar in structure or size. .

Population of Tasmania is just over 500,000. Largest city here is Hobart, population 200,000 (actually 3 cities combined), next largest city is Launceston, population 70,000. The other two cities in Tasmania each have a population of around 20,000 each.

I would be Head of Government and State and I would appoint trusted ministers to run key departments.

In my country many things would be digital in that it would be legal or illegal and the line drawn with no gray area and the law applied evenly to all regardless of money. Lawyers would have a hard time finding work in my country.

It would be a totalitarian dominion with neo-classical culture, operated by a corporate fascist complex. Individual rights would be strong and taxes would be low. Corporations would be larger and have more power over the private sector than the federal/legislative powers of government.

The military-industrial-complex would be replaced with a corporate-funded science service devoted to the advencement of technologies for social peace and consumer product development. Construction of massive State-sponsored monuments would keep unemployment low while serving to advance the cultural significance of my illustrious capitalist paradise.

In the Kingdom of Hillsville, I would (of course) be Empress. It would be fashioned on the city-state model. There would be free education (up to a Bachelor's Degree), strict enforcement of the law but also many freedoms.

Our illustrious nation would focus on scientific development, the arts, technology, and a consumer-driven market.

We would have fantastic libraries and public transportation, and have many large public works programs to keep unemployment low.

My choices, in no particular order, are listed below. You realize, of course, that these "types of government" may overlap in meaning depending on who govern the state or how the people run the government and vice versa.

  • Parliamentary Democracy
  • Constitutional Monarchy (as opposed to Traditional or Absolute)
  • Representative Liberal Democracy (like the U.S.)
  • Socialist Democratic Republic

Fascist/totalitarian regimes, communist states, or military dictatorships are obviously not my type.

My country would be a lot like my native country Finland in structure.

It would have partial direct democracy, like in Switzerland. I would still decide about things about which I strongly disagree with the majority of citizens and which I consider to be very important. (In reality, of course, I couldn't have this high a position, so the ideal realistic type of government would be exactly like the one in Switzerland.)

Education and scientific development would be of high priority, as well as solving global problems like global warming and poverty.

People's wages would be a lot more equal than they are now and social security would be high.

Your actually the only person to give a name for your nation, thank you. I like your ideas, I have some of those ideas for my own nation.

Nice. I am happy to see that most people here are concentrated on scientifically advancement. Good to see your environmentally aware.

okay cool thanks for a better look. So a city like structure. Good to see that you wont just be running the country yourself.

Benevolent dictatorship with all savings from reduced governmental expenditures being used to further technological innovation and competition. We would amend antitrust laws to encourage competition and would use tariffs/inspection of incoming crops to favor domestic companies (think the Japanese model).

Medical care would be free to all citizens and we would have one of the best public transportation systems in the world.

Do away with the military and increase scientific knowledge, nice. I can actually see that your nation would be strong. Keep everyone working will make an infrastructure maintained, good foundation.

Wow. I like the savings from the government used to better technological innovation. Competition is good, that bascially means that you could have the better stuff becuase everyone is trying to make a better product. Your the only person so far to mention free health care.

mine would be a lot like Britain, but with the Tory-Dem coalition taken out and executed.

all benefits would be means tested and only the deserving would get them. military spending would be increased and so would health spending.

Sky would be forced to sell off the Virgin group of channels and their shares in ITV.

Simon Cowell would be removed from the country.

banks and the richest would be taxed heavily and if they don't like it, they can fuck off to Lichtenstein.

non-doms would not be allowed to donate to political parties.

MPs would not be allowed second jobs.

the Lords would be abolished and replaced with a second elected chamber of county senators.

building of schools for the future would be reinstated.

the national lottery would be nationalised and changed to one game on saturday nights only.

the air ambulances would be pulled into the NHS and funded properly.

causing death by dangerous driving would be a life sentence.

life would mean LIFE.

OK. I like the taxing the rich. I agree with the Simon cowell bit. Air ambulance good idea. Death by bad driving means life, good.
Though nobody has mentioned the death penalty.

too much chance of miscarriages of justice resulting in the wrong people being executed. granted, it's probably less likely than in the Guildford Four/Birmingham Six days, but still...

And competition leads to full employment, full employment leads to a stronger economy, etc.
