Food for thought (Star Trek XI musing)

I'm over-thinking this one by far, I'll admit it. But I still think it's an interesting subject to think about.

So, Nero goes back in time and creates an alternate universe, but is ultimately killed.

Let's fast-forward 150 years or so into the future of this 'new' universe. Nero is born. One day during history class Nero learns of himself, or the alternate version of himself, and how he threatened the "entire galaxy". What does Nero think about it? Does he try to find some red matter and go back and finish the job? Does he wreak havoc on Picard and crew? (Assuming Picard takes command of a ship named Enterprise.) Or does Nero even realize that the "Captain Nero" he's read about in the history books is himself from an alternate realty?

Or does he just live off welfare and watch Battlestar Galactica reruns all day? (The BSG that ran on Universal HD from 2017-2024, and produced by Rick Berman and McG.)

He may not even be born. The causal path of the universe is different.

If he is born, I don't think he necessarily goes on the rampage. He would undoubtedly want to understand what his counterpart did, but that does not mean he would want to replicate his life. If I found out I was a serial killer in another time line, I would not set-out on a life of serial killing, but rather ask "What went wrong in that time line?"

Depending upon the relationship between the Empire and the Federation, 150 years in the "future" Nero easily could be viewed as mighty hero, many Romulan children, schools, even planets are named after him.

After Nero's death would there be enough information to accurately determine his blood line, how much did old Spock really know about his history? Or was it little more than just his name and ship?

I think in 150 nuTrek years, Nero will be a vague legend. A children's story about a crazy man's lust for vengeance that turned back time and tore a chunk out of the Federation. It's possible that this time round, with Nero and Spock Prime's forewarning, Romulus will be evacuated and Nero, wife and son live happily ever after.

I don't think anyone in the new/current/alternate/whatever timeline had access to Nero's family history, or would have taken DNA samples. "Nero" is probably a fairly common name among Romulans.

I doubt those in Starfleet who knew the truth about Nero and where he came from would allow such information to become public knowledge to the extent that its in history books. Even 150 years later the fact that a time-traveling Romulan with advanced tech was responsible for the attacks would be highly classified military information. That and it would probably be covered up by the time cops.

It all depends on what is Romulus like 150 years after Nero? Have they become what Germany is like today and look back on this genocidal lunatic with old shame? Or are they communist China where most citizens don't even know what happened in Tiananmen Square? Or is it LIES! All LIES! It was a Federation plot against Romulus! VULCAN WAS AN INSIDE JOB! etc.

Nero also had 25 years to muck about before Spock showed up. He could have gone to Romulus and gave them copies of everything in his memory banks. Then, pop over to the Klingons, blow up a bunch of ships and show up to pick up Spock. Romulus could already have statues dedicated to the great hero Nero, slayer of the Vulcans.

The question also arises if Spock would tell the Romulans about the Hobus "supernova". If he's willing to interfere to save Romulus, what about all the other races that are wiped out in the Prime universe? Does he tell the Federation about the Doomsday Machine before it destroys L-370? What about Nomad? He knows how to get Kirk to stop it. Ingraham B?

I don't see why it wouldn't, it's not like the lives of people influence which stars go nova. We were not given any indication that it wasn't a natural event. Spock never said that "The pacifists of the Ghandi Nebula caused the Hobus star to go nova, threatening the galaxy."

I don't see why it wouldn't, it's not like the lives of people influence which stars go nova. We were not given any indication that it wasn't a natural event. Spock never said that "The pacifists of the Ghandi Nebula caused the Hobus star to go nova, threatening the galaxy."

The thing about parallel universes/alternate timelines, however, is that what happens in one universe does not necessarily have to happen in another--regardless if it was a man-made event or a natural one. Or you may have identical things that happen with vastly different outcomes.

It may very well be in the the alternate universe that the Hobus star remains stable, or that its instability was detected earlier and a countermeasure was established long before it went criticial, thus preventing it from going supernova. There is absolutely no guarantee that everything that happened in the prime universe will happen--or even happen the same way--in the alternate one, and that includes some cosmic events (like the locations of some stars for example), IMO.
