Why we can never trust the IMDb completely

The Internet Movie Database is, usually, a great resource. And they've taken pains in recent years to tighten up their accuracy and to screen out bogus information. (If you've tried to have a new title added recently, you'll know it's really difficult.)

But then occasionally they shoot themselves in the foot by letting a piece of obvious bullchip get in. Such as the current cast listing for the Doctor Who Christmas Special that includes Tom Cruise playing Ethan Hunt. No, really.

I thought those guys did factchecking, which is why it sometimes takes months for additions to be added? I mean, the idea of a big-name actor appearing in Doctor Who is not impossible to imagine -- Dennis Hopper - yes, that Dennis Hopper - would have played either Max Capricorn or Mr. Copper in Voyage of the Damned if his scheduling had worked out. We had Timothy Dalton in The End of Time. And of course Derek Jacobi and John Simm.

But Tom Cruise? Playing his Mission Impossible character? In a Christmas story? Next thing we'll hear is Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer has become the next companion!

^Probably because Doctor Who does not rate very highly on "importance" when it comes to keeping their billions of entries in order...

Speaking of Voyage of the Damned, oh my goodness! I just saw it on BBC America and was astonished. I dont know if anyone has a list of the deleted scenes, but there were so many missing. Wilf was taken out!

Yes, but the OP thinks otherwise.

I always find him/her rather amusing and have the comic book guy voice from the Simpsons in my head when ever he makes a post, cuts through all the passive aggressive wowis me nonsense!

I never rely on IMDB for upcoming shows and movies. It's only a great resource for already released items.

Awww. Leave him alone. I like him.

I concur. Besides, it's never really promoted itself as a news site. It's an excellent, nearly immutable, infallible record of what was. However, always in motion is the future. If it doesn't exist in the granite of the past, the information is as elusive & unreliable as the wind.
