Best villain ever

Sorry if this has already been asked before! I'm curious as to see who your favorite villain of all time is? Mine is Montalban as Khan Noonien Singh

Gary Mitchell from "Where No Man Has Gone Before." Whether it was Gary's ego gone out of control by the energy barrier or some alien entity taking over his body (I prefer the latter), he was the villain that shook Kirk's trust in others to its foundation. (Is this how the real Gary Mitchell thinks? Did he really set me up with that little blond lab technician I almost married? etc.) Kirk was something of a self-doubter in the beginning...a Horatio Hornblower type. (Check out that briefing room scene with Spock before setting course for Delta Vega or that scene in Kirk's quarters with Bones in "Balance of Terror.") Bottom line, it was Mitchell's menace that starting forcing Kirk to rely on Spock's logic to see him through this situation and value his science officer's unique perspective in dealing with command decisions. Kirk grew from this experience with "Mitchell." (So does Spock.)

Khan would also be a great runner-up in my book, since Khan's villainy forced Spock's sacrifice in ST II and Kirk ended up losing another close friend and growing from the experiencing at the end of ST II ("I feel young.") and again in ST III (sacrificing his ship for his friends). Spock also grows from this "death" experience but in a different way.

I really liked the Romulan commander in "Balance of Terror". He was clearly the enemy, but an enemy who deserved respect for his dedication to his own crew and empire. In the end, he and Kirk weren't really that different, they were two commanders who held honor and duty dear and who were ready to sacrifice themselves for their cause.

And probably the Gorn is one of the most memorable TOS villains.

My choice(s) would be the Romulan commander (Balance of Terror) and Kang (Day of the Dove). Great characters, not just paper, one-dimensional villains.

The all-seeing, all-powerful, armless Galt from "The Gamesters of Triskellion".

"It is less painful than the collar. Turn around..."

The planet crusher in 'Doomsday Machine'....

It made the obviously, previously, tough Commodore Decker a guy bent on avenging his crew, no matter the cost...

If we count all of Trek, I go for Q, then Dukat, perhaps Annorax.

I never got the appeal of Khan, really. I thought he was an arrogant fool in WOK, really.

Since this is 'The Original Series' series forum I think they are talking about villains that appeared in that series.
