Home Audio Question

I was just wondering... I just moved into a condo \ apartment... My 5.1 system is a bit too loud for the place. I was wondering if anyone knows of a product, that can give me sound, that will allow me to enhance the centre channel from surround sound. I ask because my TV speakers in stereo barely outputs the voice channels, and its lost amongst the music and sfx.

Any thoughts?

When I was in a poorly constructed apartment building, I fiddled with the various outputs.

Mainly I had the subwoofer set to -6db, which was the minimum level for it.

I had the rear speakers set to something like +1 or +2 and it still sounded good and I could adjust the master volume to suit the time of day.

Never had any complaints.

Now that I live in a building with concrete floors/ceilings, I can have the s/w at -4 or -5 and the master volume higher.

I was never someone that had to overdo the subwoofer, though I wish I could say that about some of the other people in the crappy building.

5.1 surround sound levels - apartment

If you're able to adjust the output of the center channel then that's the way to go.
Agreed.
Some receivers have a "midnight" mode which decreases the amount of dynamic range and allows you to turn the volume lower but still hear out of all the speakers.
Your subwoofer should also be adjustable on the receiver or if it is a self-amplified subwoofer then it has it's own volume knob.
