For the next series how long do you think the ship's exterior reveal should be of the next ship the series would be based around?

VOY's reveal of Voyager in Caretaker pilot was about 1 minute through various angles.
After posting a new discussion about VOY reveal vs the refit of Enterprise in TMP lasting about 10 minutes I decided to make this poll.

Would you want something similar or shorter or longer for a TV series?

You know, I read and reread the thread title, and I had NO idea what the thread was supposed to be about.

Ah.

:)

TNG was like 5 seconds. Roll up and over the bow, and transition to the shot of Picard in the lounge. It served the purpose since you'll be seeing the ship repeatedly throughout the series, and probably the opening credit roll. The Enterprise-E got a similar amount of time, just a bank through a gas cloud. The Excelsior got more than that.

I thought the thread title meant that there was a correlation between how long a spaceship is and how long the pilot of the series is, that is about that spaceship. :rommie:

Haven't they always been only a few seconds in the TV pilot episodes? I see no reason why that should change.

TMP was longer because not only did they want to show off the many changes to the Enterprise since its refit, it was also considered a major visual sequence in the movie itself, IMO...

I demand nothing less than a week-long special which will go over the ship's exterior in loving, worryingly obsessive detail.

They should sweep over the hull first, then go inside the ship and spend a half hour just whizzing through the corridors.:)

I know the reveal of the E-D wasn't too long in "Encounter at Farpoint," but that extended separation sequence was like watching paint dry. For me, at least.

I had no idea what the heck was going on with that topic title, sorry. :P

Thirty seconds. Good music, impressed characters. The audience gets the message. We'll have the rest of the series to gawk. Let's not scare away potential viewers with four minutes of complex tubes.

I'm sorry, but anything less than the refit Enterprise reveal in TMP will not do. I want my starship porn! Preferably with the Jerry Goldsmith tune :p

Depends what it looks like. If its a fugly POS, i probably wouldn't want to watch the show full stop :p

I got a heretic thought here: does it *have* to be a ship?
What about *several* ships? A small remote-operations fleet, with its own fleet captain (or perhaps even an admiral).

The more fabulously awesome and visually stunning the new ship-exterior is, the more coy the the credits should be about displaying it. Short, fast, incomplete shots are best, and used sparcely, too: "Always Leave 'Em Wanting More."
