Star Trek: Online

Finished the last Breen episode. Fairly standard with only. A little flailing in the cavern.
Not certain how much use the Breen cold gun is.

The problem I had in the cavern was another of my fleet members couldn't hear the tones, so he decided to have a monologue about the sound quality on Vent while I was trying to hear them to figure out what order to activate them. Once I got him to shut the hell up it was an easy puzzle. :)

I have a question. If I buy the retail copy of the game would I be able to play for a certain amount of time before the monthly payments kick in?

Congratulations. I am waiting for the next weekly mission, because I have not teamed up for Infected or Terradome.

The next series of weekly episodes starts October 16th, and features another alien species well-known to most Trek fans. I won't spoil it here yet, but you can see summaries of the entire series here:

Episode 4 is especially intriguing.

Here's the deal, sonn; you have to enter payment information for your subscription, but assuming you sign up for monthly payments, you don't actually get charged until your free 30 days are up. So yes, you'll get 30 days free; and during that time you can cancel your subscription and still play out your month.

Thanks for the reply, I ordered the Collector's Edition off amuntil it comes to amazon.com so now I have two weeks to fiddle with the demo.

You can hear the tones better if you turn the background music all the way down.

Same here. I still have those two missions and the Crystalline Entity.

Might as well forget the CE mission, I'm a VA and NEVER completed it, you need a massive fleet of ships firing ONLY beam weapons at the thing, and don't hit the shards! But I've never successfully defeated it.

I never seriously bother with the CE mission.

I've heard legends of one who did defeat the vile beast. So it is possible, I think you just need a fleet of people who know what their doing.

Did the CE onece - on one character successfully; and unless they revamp it into something WAY less tedious, that'll be it for that FA.

And you know, I do understand the reason they decided to Level-Band FAs in general; but I really wish they'd fnd a way to port the 'Giant Monster' code from Champions Online (you can have plaers across the ENTIRE level range of the game all attack one of the Giant MOBs; and it's able to scale both damage taken and damage done based on player level); beause the majority of the FAs ARE fun when you can get a group of 20 going; but with the Level-Banding, that rarely happens and FAs across the game are vitual ghost towns (and not because people don't want to do them, but everyone ends up in their own banded instance.)

But I really enjoyed a numbver of the FAs during beta - and in the early days of launch, prior to all the level banding.

Actually that's not true, it will just endlessy spawn new shards who will destroy you in the end... People need to commit to certain roles. Some should put serious DPS on the thing the whole time. others take solely care of shards, kite them away from entity shooters and kill them if possible. dont use impact weapons like mines or heavy torpedoes on large shards cause it counts as collision hit and breaks it down into three small shards which make a beeline to the entity to heal it 1% health each. And that's on top of the normale regeneratio nrate it has. that's the point it usually falls apart quickly for the players and people will panic and get angy and shout at people...
dont go nearer then 5km at all times, cause shards, esspecially large shards might spawn right on top of you nad the small will be very close to the entity and cant be destroyed in time. Yes they can be destroyed, if you see them hit them hard and kill them... that's all.
Having said that, I never beat it, just was once in the instance when it died.

The problem with it right now is the fact you can't keep people who don't know what they're doing out of your instance, and so one person who keeps firing off mines at the large shards can undo all the damage of a group. The fleet instancing they're working on is going to be a big help with that problem.

Well made it up to VA last night, got a new ship token and decided not to upgrade (what can I say - I like the Argus :) )

Almost completed the Breen/Defera campaign too (just one mission to go.)

Is anyone up for doing Infection or Terror Dome over the weekend?

Don't bother with Terradome. iIve done it recently. Well, I
made it to the Boss room, where I found that you can't win it at first try. Only problem, that first try is your only try. Cryptic is aware and will fix that with the next patch or something, until then, stick to infection, Cure and Khitomer.
I'll probably be up for Infected and The Cure.

Infected,The Cure and Khitomer form a trilogy. you have to complete Infected before you get access to the Cure and then Khitomer. they are all multiplayer 5 captain team missions.

I never beat it either. Need too many ships, and there just aren't enough people doing it.
