Wonder Woman headed to the small screen

For Nostalgia sake I guess you could say Lynda Carter for Hippolyta, but I think Lucy Lawless would be great for that role (taking off my nostalgia colored glasses)

Charisma Carpenter is almost definitely too old. They're not going to cast a 40 year-old als Wonder Woman. It also doesn't help that she can really only play one character. Have you seen her on Legend of the Seeker? She was terrible.

IF they do cast an actress over 30, Lena Headey might be a good choice.

Eliza Dushku is not a bad idea, either. But I have a feeling they'll want someone even younger than that.

Charisma's great, still looks fab and young enough for the role (sure you always associate her with playing Cordy but Cordy is a character who changes radically over time). Love Lucy too although she is perhaps now a little too old (and has maybe had enough Amazons in her life).
As for Hippolyta, I say Kristine Sutherland, she'd be perfect.
As for Lynda and Lyle I'd like them both to have recurring guest roles. In the pilot, WW should save the life of an unseen US President and in the end reveal we discover that Lynda Carter IS the President (with a secret agenda). It would be a nice feminist statement as to how far the world has come since the 70s.
Lyle could be an evil(?) scientist who wants to exploit the Amazon's powers to benefit all mankind (always struck me as a little selfish, the Amazons have all this great stuff that would be of terrific use to the world but they keep it to themselves?)

I think people are forgetting that, being the WB, this will not actually be Wonder Woman. Rather it will be called Diana and follow the trials of a young, foreign exchange student as she tries to adapt to life in a NY/LA/SF High School. Diana has a secret. The Mediterranean island she is actually from is a mythological...

At best you are looking at Wonder Girl, not WW.

I don't know if it's so much we're forgetting as we're desperately hoping it's not what we all fear. :)

Tonight on the CW . . . AMAZON HIGH.

Yeah, I'd watch it.

(Ten points to anyone who remembers where I stole that title from.)

LOL-point taken.

That said, no matter what we think about Smallville is WAS the most successful Super-Hero television series EVER. It lasted almost twice as long as George Reeves' series. The WB is looking to hook into the same formula and the same audience.

A young Diana Prince at High School fighting alongside her sexy but nerdy friends is exactly what we can expect from this show.

Bingo!

You know, I could see Claudia Black as Hippolyta . . . .

For the unitiated, AMAZON HIGH was a pilot for a proposed XENA spin-off that never got off the ground. Selma Blair was a modern-day teen transported back to the age of Amazons . . . .

That sounds scary...

A female version of Young Hercules...(and, as we know, no one really remembers Young Herc)...

It's pretty sad when half the episodes from each of those seasons can be skipped. It tells you how much the writers make it up as they go along.

I'll admit that all of Smallville's season premieres and season finales are awesome. That is the only good thing I can say about the show.

Tks, for the recommendations....

You know, I could see Claudia Black as Hippolyta . . . .

^ I want Gina Torres in there as an Amazon.

Oh, yeah...

I can see Claudia Black (in the outfit she wore as 'Qetesh' in StarGate: Continuum) and Gina Torres as well...with Olivia Munn....Charisma Carpenter...Eliza Dushku...(maybe Grace Park up in their too; give her something to eat to put some meat on those bones...she's hot, but she just needs the accentuated curves)....

We can put Kate Beckinsale in there...maybe Rhona Mitra....

I want to add Zoe Saldana in that mix as well....

(I think we're getting more into Joel's fantasy than what the cast may actually be....but, oh well...)

EDIT: Uhm, let's also throw in Stephanie Jacobsen...and for nostalgia sake, Lynda Carter...

I think people are forgetting that, being the WB...

First off, The WB doesn't exist anymore. Smallville currently airs on The CW, a network which is kind of the merger of The WB and UPN.

Second, the press release doesn't specify whether the show will be on The CW. It's being developed by Warner Bros. Television, which shares a common corporate master with The CW, but that doesn't guarantee it'll end up there; Warner Bros. TV has multiple shows airing on other networks, such as Human Target, which is (theoretically) based on a DC character and is produced by WBTV, but is aired on FOX. And Time Warner owns several cable networks; it's possible the show could end up on TNT or TBS.

TPTB have to know that we are sick and tired of prequels?

Of Course if they called it The Wonder Years and had Daniel Stern narrating?

^We don't know if this will be a prequel. That's just a conclusion some posters here are jumping to. The ComingSoon.net news item suggested that this was meant to "fill the gap" left by Smallville, but that's an interpretation by that article's writer. The original item on Deadline.com says nothing about the show being a Smallville replacement. All it says is that "Kelley... recently met with the DC team who also have been looking for ways to launch a new Wonder Woman TV franchise." Which suggests that they haven't decided yet what the format of this show will be.

We don't know the format or time period or dick. Understood.

The scene to the first episode opens with Adam West making out with Linda Carter. Voice over by Linda: It took a lot to eventually live happily ever after with the man of my dreams, and it all really started about 40 years ago...

it's the perfect end around for using batman without saying they're using batman until the fanswell builds to a fricking roar that Warner brothers has no choice but to release the Bat.

Olivia Munn....Charisma Carpenter...Eliza Dushku for Wonder Woman definitely, and for Queen H. Claudia Black that could work in a series, but Like Guy said its up to the TPTB namely Kelly or get a unknown for Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.
that's my take on this.

Hippolyta is Immortal and ancient.

We don't have to cast older actresses.

hell, if Wonder woman, what with being a gollum and and all, is ageing naturally when her mother and her sisters are fixed static squarely at the same age they have always been since the first Olympic games, we could go the Mork and Mindy Route and have it that Hippolyta and the Amazons are all teenagers, however since they can't age on screen as the seasons go by where's looking at 24 years olds pretending to be maintaining a 17 year olds physique for the last 4 thousand years.

So, um yeah... The Mother could be portrayed by a younger, a much younger actress than the daughter... Which might be a fine reason to leave (think logans run when the kids form the City met Peter Ustinoff.) because she is withered and ready to die because she's 25 and only getting older.

After all, did you know that Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur were exactly the age, with just a few months between their birthdays, but still played mother and daughter on the Golden Girls?

Charisma Carpenter is almost definitely too old. They're not going to cast a 40 year-old als Wonder Woman. It also doesn't help that she can really only play one character. Have you seen her on Legend of the Seeker? She was terrible.

I'd vote for Taylor Cole, currently appearing in The Event. She was last week's Genre Babe of the Week and can be seen dressed as WW in one of her photos, by the way. She's young and looks like she's at least 5'8".
