Did anybody find "Timescape" unintentionally hilarious?

Its not one of my favorites, but I like the mystery of how Picard and co. have to piece together whats going on.

However, its amusing to see the actors and the stand-ins attempting to stay still and failing pretty badly. There also Marina Sirtis' awful acting at the start of the episode.

I have to agree. I just rewatched this one recently and found pretty much the same thing.

Though I love the part where Picard draws the smiley face in the cloud of whatever that was. He looked so stoned.

The part where Picard reaches for some fruit and pulls his hand back in a second or two and the nails have grown is weird, because data then scans the are and says time is running 40 times faster or something. So Picard's nails can grow that long in 80 seconds!?!?

The bad acting of the first two season is a halmark of TNG...I assure you.

One of my all time favourites. Marina is always great in my book. I just don't get this "awful acting" bit. There may be some episodes better than others but it is mostly down to the script and that applies equally to probably all the characters in the series (or any series for that matter)

That's why this episode ranks so high for me. It was a great mystery piece that the characters actually had to solve using their skills instead of speeches.

I liked how we first saw those frozen scenes that looked very devastating (the Ent-D bridge overrun by Romulans, Crusher apparently being shot in sickbay) but it's only when time resumes that we learn the *context* behind them - the Romulans were actually *helping* the bridge crew, and Crusher's shooting was an accident...

And this may sound like a really weird thing to say but that one time in the Romulan engine room, where the alien shows up (posing as one of the Romulan crew), La Forge points to him and says something like "Was this man here before?" Something about his use of that term (rather than "this Romulan" or "this engineer") was kind of endearing.

It was a little funny to see frozen actors wobbling. Not hilarious. This is my all time fave Trek episode. Such a cool concept. Marina's acting was great in this episode. The impression of the K'tarian was intentionally hilarious

I liked Picard's (or is that Stewart's) Hungarian accent in the shuttle, when talking about the guy who kept on going and going and going.

Marina has whiffed some scenes in her time on TNG, but her performance while doing the impersonations was intentional.

And even when we saw why the Romulan was at the bridge station, it still seems weird that Riker would allow it. Surely there were more Enterprise crewmembers that could have jumped in?

Yes, they did not think that one through. Also the fruit would not have decayed so much. It takes quite a long time for fruit to turn to mush.

I still liked the episode though. Coincidentally I watched it again yesterday.

Indeed. It'd actually probably be the funniest thing in Trek ever, if they didn't immediately ruin the humor by introducing the jeopardy.

Why couldn't Picard just be goofy for two seconds? That's why it was funny; it's like they didn't get their own joke. I don't recall the episode requiring the jeopardy for anything other than to retroactively justify what would have otherwise been an awesome moment with Picard dealing with the latest bullshit with an uncharacteristic whimsy.

Also, yeah, this episode should've been shot entirely on bluescreen if they could've afforded it. The background extras swaying and blinking is rather distracting.

It appears you missed the entire point of the scene. It wasn't supposed to be goofy. Picard was supposed to be momentarily, but the scene itself was deadly serious on two fronts. One, they were witnessing a warp core breach and the imminent destruction of the Enterprise. Two, and more immediately pressing was Picard acting silly then suddenly freaking out was a result of him suffering something similar to nitrogen narcosis. If they didn't get him back 'in phase' right away, it could kill him. As usual, Stewart played it perfetly.

Why? So that TPTB could invite ILM over to add Yoda, and Jar Jar and a few other kewl f/x? No thanks. It was perfectly fine just the way it was shot. I'm beging to think that just maybe, a large group of people out there are getting very 'spoiled' by what can be done with CGI.

It wasn't a bad episode at all, but I thought its pace was waaaaay too slow. The humor was fun, and I don't think this eppy is was a poor outing for Troi -- if you want to criticize Troi there are plenty of other episodes to do so.
