Do you actually read people's posts?

. . . If the thread is a tired topic filled with combative posters who are rehashing what they've already said a million times, I know who's going to post in the threads, exactly what they'll say, and come to within a dime's accuracy of my guess, then I'm far more likely to skim.
So . . . do they still use money in Star Trek?

I try to pay attention, yes.

Sometimes, though, I read a thread that I shouldn't, and it puts me in a foul mood that just won't quit. Like right now. :( (No, it's not this thread. :p )

It would really help if I didn't take everything so damned seriously. Unfortunately that's a hard habit to break. And it's gotten me into trouble before. :sigh:

Pie is delicious.

That it is...

With some posters I just never read anything they write as they are people who bug the shit out of me or almost always say things I disagree with strongly. It's just not worth the aggravation.

I skip anything longer than 3 paragraphs for the most part. Some people have diarrhea of the mouth and long posts tend to get boring. If two or three people are dominating a thread with a big ass argument I tune them out. I'll read the occassional post from one of the non participants in the midst of said argument.

I think a lot of people think their posts go unread simply because they're not commented on.

^^ This is something some posters have to remind themselves of (I have to as well on occasions).

If it's a topic I'm deeply interested, I'll try to read every post with attention. Unfortunately, some topics can end up just going in circles, and then I give up.

If a post seems overly long (say like 3-4 paragraphs and above), I'll be picky as to whether or not I read it, and this is usually determined by who wrote it, for example I'll always give long posts by FlyingLemons the attention they deserve. Others...not so much :p

However, there are some topics I'll just skim over generally, and only if certains things catch my eye will I pay attention again.

Also depends on the topic and lengh of the post. Of course I only read what I find interessting topic like...if its short and interessting I read all posts...if its already pages long I start in the back and then decite if I read all or only the last few, depending again on interest. If I decite against reading all I mostly skip through the others and take a short look...though sometimes I don´t look at the rest at all.
If I started the post I read all answers of course and try to answer that way that no one feels ignored.

I am getting ignored as well, can be annoying, but it doesnt bother me that much... guess the better one is known, the less one gets ignored, or maybe it was not interessting what one said or whatever...as I also use the board to train my english I just happily type away anyway, also when I get ignored. :p

Sometimes I read and sometimes I skim. It depends on the topic, poster, length, pattern of conversation, and even my mood. I tend to skim overly long posts, except from people whose brilliance is more than worth the effort (FlyingLemons, Goliath, others).

I try not to do that, but there is a natural tendency, especially if they're wound into a debate war.

So true.

As soon as two or three people get involved in a heated (and usually inane) argument, I instantly start skipping past everything they write in that thread. If they take over the thread, I stop reading the thread entirely. Internet arguments are really, really boring to everyone who isn't an active participant. In fact, getting bored reading the nonsense is why I stopped being a Misc mod last year or whenever it was.

The point by point quote and response stuff is the worst. Nobody reads them except the two twits doing it.

I thought by now someone would have mentioned how annoying it is to post something, be ignored, and then have someone say the exact same thing later in the thread, and get responses like "Good post!" and "I was gonna say that!"

 You're a Bad Man.

i often skip long winded posts or posts by people who're arguing over pointless crap.

i'm surprised no one else has admitted doing it.

i have a few people on ignore, because they're so tiresome...

Sometimes, not even them...

Well, thanks. :o
Your posts are always worth reading as well, IMO.

I'm actually tired of the people that are stupidly stubborn, You know the ones. They'll argue a point that is blatantly wrong and ignore all proof to the contrary.

Thank you, man, but I know we are on completely different levels: you are an educator. I'm only an instigator. ;)

Sometimes I just reply to the OP without reading anything anyone posted before me. (just like I did right now. ;))
