Ghrakh What's wrong with Sela then?

Just can't get past the fact that it was a contrived move for Denise Crosby to return after having walked away, and not only that, this completely unrealistic character (a half-human Romulan who has significant power in the Romulan military is one hell of a stretch) shows up in the "big" Romulan stories. Tomalak was a much better and more convincing character to play the roles that Sela did.

Yeah, it's good innit. ;)

naw, not really. Think of how much better the scenes between Spock and Sela would have been if it was Tomalak instead. Crosby came off as a petulant child next to Nimoy, and she's playing a character that's in charge of invading Vulcan? Tomalak was almost a mirror-Spock in character. Devious, but also intelligent and thoughtful, and it would have made for an awesome verbal confrontation. Instead, we get "ohh, i hate vulcans i hate vulcans bwaa bwaa!!"

And rather than have a very likable character like Pardek just up and betray them, it would have had more impact if he was caught and executed, thus galvanizing Spock's determination to stay more strongly as they went to the trouble to establish his character and history.

Loved the episode and I loved the book. Actually fun fact, that was the first ST paperback I had ever owned. Though it has been forever since I have read and watched the episode, I seem to remember that Pardek did the betrayal reluctantly, or was saddened by what he had done.

There can never be enough Tomolak. So yes, this episode could have benefited from Tomolak. But you could pretty much say that for every episode.

I agree about Sela being kinda cheesy and lame. Maybe it would have been cooler if they found the alternate universe Tasha as an old prisoner of war or something (in old makeup)... It would be interesting to see if she was angry at picard for sending her back afterall, even though it was a different picard. That would have been better than Sela I think.... but I dunno. I love having Crosby back on the show though so I can forgive Sela's cheesiness.

"I HATE Vulcans!!!!" that was like a scooby doo ending or something.

That said, i love this both parts of this two parter. The first part is A+ trek all around, and Spock saves the second part.

The Part where they mess up riker's hair in the hologram at the end always makes me laugh. It looks so flat! I'm glad riker mentioned it.
