Only one in 100 Britons is gay despite long-held myth

But that's my point. You ask different people what gay is and you will get different answers. If you kiss a guy is that gay? If you are attracted to one guy is that gay? If you fuck your wife up the ass I'm sure some people would consider that a perverted gay thing.

Asking who is gay is just stupid. Half the guys I have been with wouldn't call themselves gay. A few would call themselves bi, a few wouldn't call themselves anything, and a few would call themselves straight, some with girlfriends (don't judge me!) and kids.

So trying to prove what population is "gay" is a joke, and frankly completely pointless.

Some intresting survey done in Britain biggest one jet founds that only 1 in 100 are homosexuals. This surrvay explodes the assumption - long promoted by social experts and lobbyists - that the number is up to ten times higher than this surrey shows. Any thoughts

`````Um, this survey only indicates what people CLAIM as their sexual preference, not what IS their sexual preference. You'd need roving squadrons of Vulcans performing massive numbers of Mind Melds and then reporting the results to get actual truth. As long as there is a stigma, homosexuality will be underreported (like, if you could only get off with a chicken, say, would you want to tell anybody you didn't have to?) The one-in-ten ratio might be a tad high, but...one-in-a-hundred? That seems low, extremely low.
`````What makes this a Trek thread, BTW?

Sexuality may be fluid, but when you are predominantly interested in and attracted to members of your own sex then you're gay/lesbian.

But I thought gay was from birth. Everybody says it's from birth. Now you're saying it's a continuum. I wish people would make up their minds. Party conversations are a minefield.

My main exposure to Britain is Doctor Who, so I thought everyone in the UK was either gay or in an inter-racial relationship ;) :D

Yes, you are born gay, straight and everything in between. There is a lot of grey in sexuality.

That's according to you. What if I like 51 guys and 49 gals. I'm gay? I'm only "bisexual" if I like the exact number of guys and gals?

It's always one or the other though, isn't it? I don't mean your comment but your response is to that assumption that someone who does something even remotely related to homosexuality must be homosexual.

The Kinsey Scale I believe was referenced already but it does provide a scale from straight as an arrow to as homosexual as a stereotype can get. There are plenty of grades inbetween and not one of them says comitting any single act makes you one or another.

Does a man who has sex with a woman vaginally and anally make him bisexual? Probably not if he wouldn't do it with another man or if he would not want it done to himself; which even then you could argue, by another man, by a woman with a strap on, or himself?

So no, there's no simple "act" which does signifiy hetero or homo or bi-sexuality. Just as some men might be attracted to other men, they would not go as far as have sex with them or even kiss them. That's also true of women in regards to other women.

But people do find it easier to make everything literally one or the other and fail to see a grey area.

Mhmm... 51 guys and 49 guys... You're gay.

And what exactly are you even arguing about?
There is far more grey than there is black and white in sexuality.

And there is nothing wrong with ascribing labels like 'gay' to a guy who is predominantly attracted to others guys.

That's 100 guys, 100% gay. Though I'm sure one was meant to be woman so it's either 51% or 49% gay.

Sounds like he's having a lot of fun with the typo. I thought two partners at once was exciting. 100? wow!

Ummm... what you said was exactly my point. What makes something "gay"? Everyone has a different meaning to "gay" so if one is different than another, and there is no scientific meaning to "gay" then how do you prove only 1% of the UK is gay?

I like what someone said. 1% of the UK would be 500,000 people, yet the gay dating site in the UK has 1.5 million users. That's more proof of a percentage of gays in the country than a stupid poll.

I was agreeing, which I thought I made clear. I just expanded on it.
