Has any one else had a go at building any of the numerous paper models that can be downloaded for free from around the interweb? I have just completed one of the USS Defiant and have now started a Runabout from DS9. Although time consuming, it was great fun and now have a lovely model to sit upon the TV. A great way to acquire cheap 'collectibles' - Quark would be proud!!!!

used to build quite a few a few years ago. blew up an original enterprise to double the size ended up being just over 2 and a half feet long.
built a stargazer and was half way through a enterprise a build before the room I used got water logged and lost everything.
unfortunately most of the builds got lost during the last move.
still got the files on pc so i can always re print them if i need to

I tried to make the Akira. The instructions weren't helpful. I used paper rather than card as per the instructions -but it didn't work well. Also there weren't any tabs to use to glue pieces together. The original modeller's work must have been held together by a structual integrity field and no glue. I gave up.
Any links to such designs?

I have also found printer paper to be too thin and flimsy - Try cutting the pieces out roughly, the gluing them to a second sheet of paper. This gives about the thickness of card and the thin film of glue between the sheets stiffens the whole thing nicely. As for following the directions, yes, this can be hard but the more you build the more your intuition improves at how to visualize things in 3 dimensions when staring at a flat piece of paper. I hope you give it another try and with these tips, have more success

Any beginner/noviec builder should be able to handle this with out too much trouble. I have just started assembling the saucer section myself.

I started collecting paper models back in college and have amassed quite a collection, nearly 6 GB's worth. Once in a while, I take a stab at building some of them. I have a half finished TOS bridge, a Haunted Mansion game from Disney Experience, the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, a Doctor Who Key to Time, and thanks to Pepakura, a full, wearable suit of Iron Man armor made from cardboard. Current models I'm working on is Captain America's shield and the Chest of Demons from 'The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo' which I'm designing myself.
