Nintendo 3DS specs revealed

Wow, not bad. The GPU has a higher fill rate than the PSP although the PSP still seems to have the edge in polygon-pushing. Not that we care about such things. :p

Sounds like a nice little system. I'm still not sold on it, though. My DS works fine and they'd have to come out with some pretty kick-ass 3DS-only games for me to drop the money.
 
I may consider getting one of these guys. I have a first-gen DS that I rarely use these days (I find it a little clunky now, and the screen causes terrible eyestrain in anything but completely ideal lighting conditions), but could never justify the DS Lite or DSi as enough of an upgrade. The 3DS looks like a very solid little system, though, and I'm intrigued by the slide pad; be nice to finally have a hand-held with a joystick-esque option.
 
The specs are pretty nice, hopefully they are real.
The only thing that worries me is the 1.5 GB of flash memory, hopefully they will allow us to run and save content directly from an SD card.

Just so everyone knows Nintendo is holding a press conference on the 29th of this month, 3DS details like price and launch date will likely be announced at the conference.
 
Its not really that impressive. It looks like it should be head of the PSP but thats not exactly cutting edge now. plenty of smartphones have already broken the 1 GhZ mark, and the PowerVR SGX 540 is a pretty impressive mobile GPU. I was kinda hopiing for at least Xbox/Wii level, of course none of this really matters because I'd take the DS over the PSP any day and we know how those specs stack up.

I guess i just hoped for a little more not because it need the power for games but it would be nice to have better multimedia functions like 3D movies on the go, and a decent web browser.
 
^ Have you seen the videos of the recently announced games? I'm bloody impressed with them, looked better than the Wii from what I could tell.

Maybe so, but that all depends on if the rumours of the new WiiHD coming out around the same time are true.
 
^How does it depend on that? Doesn't take away from it looking better than the Wii even if a better Wii comes out.
 
No matter how cool the 3DS games look, if the Wii HD is a decent HD console it could see sales of the 3DS being affected by more people buying its larger cousin console.
 
I would think they would stagger the release and since nothing has been announced on the Wii HD front I would think it would be at least a year or more away. And really Portables and Home consoles are different markets. I am thinking of buying a 3DS since I haven't bought a portable since the original DS but I would think twice about buying a Wii HD right out of the gate.

Yup. It's pretty clear that DS sales weren't hurt by the fact that the Wii existed and vice versa.
 
Probably, the 3DS is pretty much confirmed for a Spring 2011 release in Europe and North America, if this WiiHD comes out it would probably be a fall release.
 
Yeah, I don't see how sales of a mobile gaming device would be impacted by the release of a home console. :wtf: They're two different things. It's like saying no one bought PSPs because the PS3 came out.

But no one bought the PS3 around launch because of the PSP! :lol:
