The defunct technology thread got me wondering about something.

People who still wear wristwatches, I have a question:

Do you wear it with the watch itself on the outside of the wrist, facing outward? Or with the watch on the inside of the wrist, facing inward?

I've always worn it on the inside, facing inward: I picked this up from my Dad. But most people seem to wear it with the watch facing out.

(Feel free to post pictures of your watch, and discuss anything watch-related here, as well)

Outward. Inward just feels unnatural, and I find isn't as easy to glance at.

My watch is pretty basic, just a Timex digital number. I like it because it's durable and waterproof, so I never have to worry about ruining it.

I've never been able to wear them, I'm afraid. I have a really sensitive nervous system, and a watch is just a tremendous irritation when clinging to my wrist for any length of time.

Outside. It's easier that way. Although I don't wear my watch particularly tight, so it sometimes goes on the inside if it gets shook up. That's annoying.

No wristwatch here, at least for the last 7 or 8 years, and my sig explains why !

Like nearly everybody, I wear my watch with the watch body on the outside of the wrist. Wearing it on the inside of the wrist, aviator-style, used to be preferred by some pilots so they could check the time easily while keeping both hands on the control yoke.

Still? Are watches becoming obsolete? Everybody I know wears one.

Do younger people not have watches these days? Seems to me that it's a lot easier to simply glance at your wrist than to whip out your cellphone whenever you want to know what time it is.

On the outside, that way i can look at it easily by just lifting up my sleeve and bam, there it is.

Ah, but on the inside, you can peek at it surreptitiously, with a mere flick of the wrist...ninja style!

Well on a more personal level, i don't find it comfortable that way, but that's me. I've just always worn my watch on the outside.

BTW, i hope watches aren't becoming obsolete; i have a major thing for watches. I'm not a big fan of jewelry as a whole, but i loves me some watches.

On the rare occasions I wear my watch I wear it outside.

I would like to wear watches more often but watches don't seem to last when I wear them. It doesn't matter if it is a cheap watch or expensive watch, and it occurs whether the watch is digital or not. As a result often simply carry my watch in my pocket.

When I used one I had it outward. it was just more comfortable that way. Now I just use my cellphone.

You're quite right of course, but in my experience when you ask someone of any age for the time, most will pull out some odd little electronic device that tells them rather than glance at a watch...

That may be why I wear mine the way I do (Inside) as I might have picked it up subconsciously from my grandfather who had been in that line of work.

My wrist tends to get irritated after a few days of wearing a watch. I haven't worn one regularly in years.

I do have several very nice pocket watches, however.

Here's a picture of my favorite wristwatch:

^Nice!

I had a pocket watch for a while. That, combined with my long full beard, prompted one of my colleagues to ask: "So...are you trying to look like Charles Darwin?"

I haven't been able to wear a watch in a long time. For some reason my body kills batteries so they will run for about a week before they go all flewy. So I voted for "don't wear one".

But when I could wear a watch, I wore it on the outside. If I turned it over I would end up smashing the crystal on something.
