Great news! For a while I thought Tobias Richter was the best at Star Trek CG, but after I found yourself, I believe that your material is much more realistic. Many times I thought you had built an actual physical model for your shots. I am looking forward with great anticipation to seeing your next images.

Vektor's modeling of these kinds of ships is the best I've seen. The challenge for us is going to be getting the details of texture and lighting on Polaris up to his level after what's going to be a necessary format conversion from Max to LW.

And yet, it seemed to get some pretty cool reactions from the audiences I saw it with. They made a movie, the movie was big, and a bunch of NON Star Trek fans loved the ship; and IMO that was the entire point of the movie, in terms of the ship..plot..casting.

The fact that TOS fans, or Trek fans, didn't like certain aspects of the movie, the ship being one of them, is a step in the right direction.

    "But it was popular!"

That's such a great reason to consider something good! Truly... wait, why are you a Star Trek fan to begin with? Shouldn't you have run over to the much more popular Star Wars a long time ago? Or better yet, discard that nerdy scifi altogether?

I'm certain that when Galileo said Jupiter had moons, his entire reason for doing so was because he thought the people would herald him as that funky guy that gave Jupiter moons, as opposed to it being true.

I ask for V as he is often busy and I'm free ATM. Please can the Trekkie fan drama. Vektor asked politely to take it somewhere else out of his thread, and I'm totally in his corner on that.

As I recall, multiple times now this exact debate has erupted in this exact thread.

I suspect that the Art forum, as a collective whole, has a terrible short-term memory capacity.

Speaking of short term memory, it was as I scrounged about for Star Trek wallpapers that would fit a widescreen (and have even posted a thread about it in GTD), that I remembered Vektor and deg3d in this thread. Let's see, how can I go about this with dignity...

Oh please, for the love of all that is good, make more desktops! There aren't nearly enough and nowhere near the quality found in this thread!

*ahem* I would appreciate anything you may have. :shifty:

Can't speak for Vektor's output, but I have a bunch on my site under the "desktops..." link on the splash/main page. They are also in a thread in this same "Fan Art" section, but are easier collected and found on my site.

Some decently recent new ones of the G7, alone and with Big E. Will do more, but working on Marvel Comics character stuff right now.

Thanks for the interest, glad ya enjoy the art. :)

I don't have any sheet plans at the moment but I think something could probably be arranged. Also, the design isn't quite finalized. It's currently undergoing another round of tweaks and modifications but I hope to have that completed soon.

Stay in-touch and we'll work something out.

Well I hope we can work on this in the future, I can get you a copy of the model i make, and I like the movie 11 Enterprise, but would have like to have seen your ship up their!
Photos, Plans with cross section, and I can make a very nice copy. I am doing the TOS in 1/510 scale about 22.5" but would like to see your rendition in 1/350.
Think I would modify my work first for a model of your ship, it looks to have so many of the same hull lines?

Thanks for the Very Nice Work, sir. If you like that then your going to love the finished product. Plan to post some more later, start a build thread on the work.

I am a CAD draftsman by training and by trade, so putting together a set of plans would not be a problem for me. Just have to finish the 3D model first.

Brian Stark and by day Trade I work as a Collision Tech Bodyman. I paint too and this works well with building models. The Enterprise I showed, I started working a few weeks ago, and have been having some fun doing, had a few oop's to redue to get it right. Plan on a cast Shuttle Bay, and doors that open in stages.

I do work by hand, I can do a measured scale model with time and having good detail information. When your ready Please let me know your Terms.
    Thanks
    Brian

I have a site where I post model work I have done.

    Hey Jason,

Came across your version of an updated TOS Enterprise and have to say WOW. I was never real thrilled with the JJ Abrams version or the film for that matter. Wish there had been someway to get your rendition of the Enterprise in to the movie. You've done a great job keeping the old look and feel while updating the detail on the ship. I've also seen your recent update of the collectors on the front of the nacelles. Very nice, and can't wait for some updated wallpaper. I also like what you have done to the deflector dish and main hull. Very nice indeed and the best update I have seen thus far.

In fact, you've inspired me to get back in to using 3ds max. I had pretty much given it up after leaving Autodesk (known as Discreet back then) and having run the support forums for Autodesk for 4 years.

Last serious piece I did in 3D was a rendition of the starship for a little known Rock Band from the 70's known as Boston. I had to transition from 3D Studio to 3ds Max and wanted to try my hand at the Enterprise but there were these guys at Wolf 359 that had done an awesome job on the Enterprise and I wanted something that couldn't be said I had just used someone's model. Thus I pulled out the Boston album Don't Look Back and used the blue print on the sleeve to render the guitar starship. It would later be used on their Corporate America CD, T-Shirts, Calendars....

Anyway, would love to get your contact info directly. If okay with you just email me at darvin@comcast.net.

    Cheers,
    Darv

Please forgive the necro-post, but this involves an update of a technical matter as a courtesy to affected computer users.

For those using late-model Macintosh computers, it you wish to playback the nacelle demo motion video linked by Vektor in posting #290 of this thread, you are likely using a version of the Macintosh operating system that no longer supports older versions on Flip4Mac's WMVPlayer. I would recommend switching to VLC.app as an alternative Windows media player.
