The

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
From Amazon.com

  • Meanwhile in the Tardis: Newly filmed scenes written by Steven Moffat, exclusive to DVD and Blu-ray, telling what happens between the episodes
  • Doctor Who Confidential: An inside look at each episode
  • Monster Files: Get under the skin and inside the minds of the new Doctor's most challenging opponents
  • In-vision commentaries
  • Outtakes
  • Video diaries
Emphasis mine, that sounds cool! Anyone have any other news about this release?

Awesome commentaries are included...are "in-vision" commentaries "video commentary tracks"? I might buy this after all then.

No idea! I, too, wish they could get Matt, Stephen, Karen, and Arthur for full commentaries for each episode. Can you imagine how funny those would be? Especially with Matt and Karen... :techman:

Ah, so they're gonna try the in-vision commentaries again, eh? Didn't they do that for Series 2, then drop it for some reason? These were in addition to the usual audio commentaries, if I recall.

And the new "in between" scenes sound really cool too.

Yeah. They're nothing really special - they basically just set up a camera in the recording studio where the commentaries are done. Kevin Smith did this on one of his films, too. It tends to be a bit more annoying than anything else because the picture is usually too small to see anything, and it obscures the video. At least that's how the Season 2 in-vision came off. Now that they're doing Blu-Ray, maybe there'll be a full-screen option or something.

It's nice to see outtakes back again. I was very disappointed that they didn't have a blooper reel for Season 4, as Catherine Tate would have been a hoot in the outtakes, and apparently there were a lot from the Journey's End shoot.

We've posted here about "Meanwhile in the TARDIS" before. Apparently they're a couple of short skit-like "fill in the events" type of things that take place between a couple of the episodes, explaining a few things. I'm sure they'll be fun to watch.

It's too bad they couldn't include the Proms concert, but I think you'll find that's been earmarked as an extra for the UK DVD/BD release of the Christmas special and will show up in the inevitable "Series 6, Part 1" set as a way of lightening the curse of them double-dipping us on the Blu-Rays next year. (Not that this has been announced, but considering virtually every other series that does split seasons does this with their DVD releases, I can't see Doctor Who being any different).

Meanwhile in the Tardis sounds great... but how are the fans going to squeeze in 47 years of additional adventures between the episodes?

Great! Best thing about this release is that it finally means they'll change the damn commercial on the Classic Who disks. I'm sick of hearing "You seem to be driftin darlin..." the friggin season 4 advert.

Cool features, the 'Meanwhile in the Tardis' just sounds cool. Brdging the gap between the eps sounds like a fun addition to the set.

Ive just looked up on a few sites including Play.com, it doesnt say if the Confidentials are, ahem, "cut down" like the first and second season releases were. If i remember correctly, the confidentials for season 4 and the specilas were un-edited. So, heres hoping.

Thats totally frickin' AWSOME!!!

Hopefully it will be as cool as the SFX lenticular cover from a few months ago.
