Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS MAYBE

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

The sound was also tinny and bad, like all the dialogue was only in the right speaker and all the sound effects only in the left speaker. Maybe it was the theater.

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

I'm actually surprised that they keep on making these. Not to disparage their quality since I have only seen the first one, but more due to the fact that it is actually a pretty successful video game to movie franchise.

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

Weekend estimates place Resident Evil: Afterlife with a $27.7 million opening on a $60m budget. The bigger news is that RE:A opened fairly wide on a global scale and pulled in $73.2 million in its 3 day global total.

Resident Evil 5 is a go.
"This new 'Resident Evil' is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It's the biggest movie in the franchise," she said. "So we're definitely going to make another one."

Jovovich added that director Paul W.S. Anderson, her husband, already has some ideas for the fifth installment and they are looking for ideas from the fans as well this time.

"We've been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it's probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process.

Of course an official announcement from the studio is still needed. However, when you are married to the director any layman can basically predict RE:5 is going to happen.

RE:5 a Go. My son will be pleased.

Still haven't seen it yet, heard about RE 5, bring on Leon Kennedy!

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

I remember giving up on Anderson when AvP came out; a movie that was also horrible....(I saw an interesting post on IMDB that described Anderson having issues with his producer-Tom Rothman--where there was the issue of making the film more 'friendly'..i.e. PG-13). That example was also used with Tim Story who directed the Fantastic Four films...where the same producer handled things....and even in the case of making Die Hard 4 more friendly to audiences.

However, since Anderson worked with Screen Gems and not 20th Century-Fox, I don't think he has anyone to blame.

I need to watch part 1 to see if it still holds up.:sigh:

Well, Anderson is lucky that Jovovich is so willing & compliant. Len Wiseman is bed buddies with Kate Beckinsale, and yet she's still looking for ways to bail on Underworld IV.

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

^^

See, I couldn't even get into the first Underworld film, let alone the series. (All that caught my attention about that franchise was Beckinsale in that leather bodysuit)...

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

So.. After giving RE:3 a miss in the theatres, the fact that they were doing with with 3D in mind caught my attention.

I knew going in that it was going to be more zombie hunting and light on character development.

I came out impressed.. Yes, most of the cast, save Ali and Milla are cookie cutter and expendible.

Visually, the 3D REALLY worked for me and while it wasn't as POP and colourful as Avatar, it really made good use of the medium.

I'm not a player of the video games, but I assumed that the big guy was from one of the games and thus, tossed in for fan service. I'm glad someone said the girl at the end was Jill, otherwise I was left not having any kind of clue who she was.

Overall, a good waste of time!

Interesting that you mention Avatar. On the Slice of Sci Fi podcast a few weeks ago, they interviewed the director. Apparently, he's on friendly terms with Cameron. Before Avatar came out, the folks on RE were allowed to view footage and see the new 3D visuals long before anyone else. Then, Cameron let the RE folks use the same cameras and technology developed for Avatar. You can hear the interview here.

For those with 3D rage, the hosts and the director do get into a funny disagreement about the abundance of 3D currently in theaters.

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

Thanks! very interesting.

I'm not a big fan of all the 3D mania going on and avoid it most of the time.. But this, and of course the upcoming Tron Legacy seem to be really aimed at the genre rather than just slap-dashed with it.

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

Just saw the movie today, BEST RESIDENT EVIL MOVIE SO FAR OTHER THAN THE FIRST ONE, IMO

Yeah, it was obvious the movie was hyping up and showing off "3D" so i get that, and boy did it, a lot of effects, but they were all pretty awesome. The music, the pacing, the action, all of it was spot on. Yeah, the characters don't talk much, but they aren't supposed to! This is Resident Evil afterall, shooting zombies is what its about! There were some great scenes, and I really got a Left 4 Dead vibe while the gang were on that roof of the prison, lined up, shooting the zombies down, pretty awesome stuff.

This was a great entertainment piece, that is what I wanted out of it, to be entertained, and entertained I was. I would watch it again, and in fact I will cause I want my dad to see it so I'll go with him and I'll watch it again.

I'm not a big fan of 3D movies, hate the glasses, it makes everything darker, and my eyes have a hard time focusing, but for this movie, it was really great. I think the secret for 3D is to sit in the back rows, the farther the better.

I give it an A+ or Excellent

Highly looking forward to the next one.

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

In its third weekend RE:A placed 7th with an estimated $4.9 million bringing its total up to $52 million domestic and a global total of $155m to date.

It's still about 2 more weekends from breaking even on its $60m budget. This is a film series that only requires that looking at past performance and the fact that Milla said another is going to happen.

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

Yeah, the characters don't talk much, but they aren't supposed to!

If you're uninfected and you know it, say some words!
If you're uninfected and you know it, say some words!
If you're a zombie, then you're silent
And you shouldn't even try it
But if you haven't been infected, say some words!;)

^^^
Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands?

Cute, you come up with it?

Re: Resident Evil: Afterlife directed by Paul W.S. Anderson-SPOILERS M

I know over on the BOM boards there were some over zealous predicts for this movie.
The movie finally crossed its budget recently of $60m for the US market. Most amazing thing is that on the global market its made 3.5 times what it did in the North American market. That is a huge disparity. Films typically fall into a 50/50 or 60/40 split. Resident Evil: Afterlife has a vastly different split of 80/20.
Some of the BOM user predicts for this were $80million saying "3-D would carry it there". Even though the movie was made for 3-D it just shows that simple being in 3-D isn't going to draw audiences for some films.

I'm surprised they aren't releasing it on DVD until post Christmas. Coming out 12/28. I'd think they might want to get some more $$$ out of it, pad the bottom line even more.
