Check out Captain America and his sweet, sweet Nazi-slaying motorcycle. A new crop of gloriously patriotic pictures have emerged from Captain America: The First Avenger set showing Steve Rogers, his enemies, and a lot of sexy time period whips.

We have so many questions. What kind of gun is that strapped to the front of his wheel? What kind of car is that? Is everyone satisfied with the costume (we love the wings painted on his helmet!)? And finally, anyone else immediately think Rocketeer when when they saw the Nazi motorcycles?

Apologies if this has already been posted...

Is it just me or do those look like pictures of toys and action figures? I'm not suggesting they are just that they look that way.

That does look pretty damn silly, but I'm sure it'll look much cooler in the actual movie.

I hope.

Most of what shows up on screen in a modern action movie is touched up post-production. Some guy's camera phone pictures from the set are not going to represent the finished product very well.

I thought the exact same thing. I'm sure it will end up looking a lot better on the big screen in the end, though.

Plus it's possible he has two costumes in the film. It looks like there's some influences from The Ultimates in there. After all it kind of seems in vogue to have superheroes have two costumes in a film now-we had Spider-Man do it, and a major plot point from Iron Man II was him building a second suit. Ditto with Batman.

I think Captain America might be one of the weaker Marvel films though. Johnston's an OK production designer (He was responsible for much of the look of the original Star Wars trilogy) but he's not the greatest director IMO. Funny that he and Favreau both worked on Chris Van Allsburg movies about magical board games.

He does have two costumes in the film. The first costume he wears is much more showy and the second he wears is the one we see here, which is a more practical outfit that he uses for his encounters in the battlefield.

And the gun strapped to Harley's front wheel is a Thompson sub-machinegun. That's historically correct since most such bikes carried them.

What made the new breed of superhero movies (starting with X-Men) good was that despite their fantasy setting and unbelievable powers/gadgets it was still rooted in reality somewhat which made it more accessible to mainstream audiences.

Now i see those "nazi bikes" and i wonder where the hell this realism went?
This looks like a cheap toy from the 50s and not something that was in use back in that time.

I like Cap's bike.. nice, realistic touch but the nazi bikes :wtf::rolleyes:

Keep in mind, this is the stunt man riding the bike, and not Mr. Evans himself.

One thing, though; why are they filming in England instead of in the USA? You mean to tell me there are no older places to film 1940's America in? Or am I reading the original article wrong?

The bikes in question are part of a detachment belonging to the Red Skull in all likelihood; that's why they look so special and different.

they're filming in Britain because a lot of action takes place in Britain - specifically London - and Europe and it's easier to make 2010 Europe look like WW2 Europe than 2010 America look like WW2 Europe, as well as a number of financial reasons including a favourable exchange rate, tax breaks and the world class crews we have working over here who've worked on the Bat-flicks, Harry Potter, Phantom Menace and Thor-knows what else that's filmed here in the past 15-20 years.

Oh yeah, just like my hometown of Toronto, and Canada in general. Thanks.

Also keep in mind that this is the actual outfit they're using, rather than something that resembles the outfit they used in the comics for 60+ years. Sadly, it's not going to get any better than this.
