Waters Of Mars Wins The Hugo

Honestly, Waters of Mars is my favourite episode of the entire new series.

Human Nature, Family of Blood, Blink, Girl in the Fireplace, School Reunion, Dalek, Parting of the Ways, End of the World, Doomsday, Utopia, Father's Day, Stolen Earth, The Unquiet Dead, Vincent and The Doctor, The Eleventh Hour, Time of Angels, Flesh and Stone, Pandorica Opens, The Big Bang, The Lodger...............WoM was your favorite of the entire new series? Really?? :wtf:

Hmm, not a bad story, but stuff like Blink or The Next Doctor were certainly more deserving in my opinion.

Well, it's certainly my favourite out of the RTD era. If I had to sum up my top ten for the overall RTD era, the ranking would go like this:

1. Waters of Mars

2. Midnight

3. Blink

4. Father's Day

5. Dalek

6. Turn Left

7. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways

8. Human Nature/Family of Blood

9. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit

10. Stolen Earth/Journey's End

I must admit, Amy's Choice came close to being the best of the new era. I totally loved it. The Lodger was a lot of fun too.

^I'd say the same thing in terms of Tennant's entire era... ;)
^and I'd say the same thing about the entire history of the universe! Do I win the Geek Hyperbole Award? :D

Sure, if that's your goal. I will give you the overreacting consolation prize, if that works for you? :p Meanwhile, I wasn't being hyperbolic. Tennant is a good Doctor, no doubt. But, his entire era, and term as the Time Lord, is incredibly overrated. In fact, in view of this latest season, I'd say he looks worse and worse as time passes. He'll always be a legendary Doctor thanks to all the tweens heart-throbbing over him. But, in the end, it was all very subpar by comparison... :techman:

If there's something I've learned here and elsewhere on the internet, it's that "overrated" is just geekspeak for "I don't like it and I really can't understand why anyone does". Why don't you simply say that you don't enjoy it that much? Why bring the entire audience into it?

You presume too much in your Internet Geek Expertise. I would think it well understood, by now, that anything anyone says on the internet is someones personal opinion, unless they have facts to back up their point. Right? Should every post be followed by "my opinion" or "just what I think"? Isn't it assumed? Or is that expecting too much from the message board community? I no more think Dennis is speaking for the world in his opinion than I do when Bones, Starkers, or you say something. Thus, it's a waste of my time and patience to have to coddle every post with "no offense meant just my personal opinion". You certainly should be more intelligent than to need it, right?

Is there anything else you want to presume you understand about me? Or are you just itching to bitch about someone? :p

You don't understand. When you say that something is "overrated" or "underrated", whether you state that it is your opinion or not, you make a judgment call, not about the movie or series or work of art you're talking about, but about its audience. Hundreds or thousands or millions of people you probably don't know. To say that something is "overrated" doesn't mean "it sucks", it means "I am rating it correctly, while most people are rating it incorrectly". It's incredibly arrogant.

It's also totally inconsequential. So say whatever you want.

The 2009 Doctor Who story The Waters of Mars has won the 2010 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.

The story was part of the Specials series covering the gap year between Series 4 and Series 5. It was written by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford and directed by Graeme Harper. The story starred David Tennant as the tenth Doctor along with Lindsay Duncan who played Adelaide Brooke.

The award was announced at Aussiecon 4 in Melbourne earlier on Sunday. The Waters of Mars beat two other Doctor Who stories, The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead as well as the American series Dollhouse and Flash Forward to triumph at the awards.
Time Lord Victorious!

Hell yeah!

I loved it, it was a thrilling story and a great character study. It's just as great as Midnight.

Not at all, my friend. No arrogance involved, simple opinion. When I say something is overrated, I am saying that the world has rated it highly and I disagree. That's what we humans do. Vary in our opinions and tastes. Thus, when I hear about how valued Tennant's era is, I simply nod. But, I think the whole thing is overrated. And that's my opinion. It's me not agreeing with the notion that his era was all that great. That's all. Any arrogance or slight you take personally is your own interpretation, and (I hate to say it) arrogance. You presume I am talking directly to you and Ten's fans, when I am not. I am making a general remark of opinion.

It's also totally inconsequential. So say whatever you want.
Well, of course it is. I'm not running that show. We're just talking about our favorite television series. Thus, why I can come here to a Doctor Who message board and state I found Tennant's era overrated. It's not an out of the ordinary place to do so, I am not interjecting my views on anyone, and it's par the course for overt opinions on the net.

Wrong side of the bed this morning, dear? Or are you still heart-throbbing over Ten (I am JUST joking MM!)... :p

I honestly wasn't trying to have a pissing match. Just stating an opinion...

I thought WOM was the best of a very lackluster 'specials' season, so personally I can see why it won if there was basically nill competition.
